I don't normally post while enjoying my summer sabbatical but I just couldn't resist. And all this time I thought Bernie was a senile old fool. Looks like I'll be booking a limo for the Texas GP events for at least a decade or so. Or maybe I'll just scoot there on my Aprilia. Cool.

LONG LIVE THE TEXAS F1 GRAND PRIX!

PS. I don't feel so bad about paying the exorbitant RE taxes now.

    Duplicate threads should be combined?

Anyway, the promoter seems to have some experience in racing:

As I wrote in the other thread:

    this feels like another USF1.

    Where's the money?

Even though I suspect that this will end up like the time the Raiders were going to move to a new stadium in Irwindale... I am hopefull that F1 will find a home somewhere in the US so I can attend a race without having to use a passpord or exchange money. Plus, if it's anything like Indy, we can see the drivers out on the town b/c in the US almost nobody recognizes them. I'll bet Bernie is still chatting with the other player about NY. In the meantime - hello Montreal!

No Ferrari flags or banners either.

    I see a fan.

    But I don't see a race fan, ;)

    Then don't go.

Why do you even post in F1? You are either a fan, or not, regardless of where the race is.

A far stretch to being on topic but I was in Bastrop a few years ago and amongst the trucks with "stacks" whizzed by an R34 Skyline in RHD. The area is quite diverse

That's the track for Cigs, Beaks, and OL's with much more power than the measly F1 cars.

Obviously not a fan of Austin...... Please answer the Q asked in post #17. - Why are you not interested?

I've been there a few times, and other than humidity, it seems like a pretty cool place to me.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Austin is definitely the best of Texas. Not nearly as glitzy as NYC or Los Angeles, but it is a very good location for a purpose built track in the USA.

Nothing wrong with the location, per se.

I don't see it happening however, because I don't think the money will materialize. How much do you guys figure it would cost to build an F1 facility in Texas that meets Bernie standards? Certainly hundreds of millions. Just for the facility.

Then you have Bernies fee - I'll bet he wants to get the USA on par with other countries, so say $20mm/yr at a minimum. Plus the cost of promotion and the insurance and workers and all the other parts of actually holding the race.

Can it make money in the USA? I don't think so, not with all the demands Bernie places on it. So who'se going to finance this money losing proposition? I don't see anyone rushing with checkbook in hand.

Not to mention "Full Throttle Productions" seems about as elaborate a company as MDM Eurotics. Ok, maybe not THAT bad, but not that good either.

    It's pie in the sky.

Having intimate knowledge of what it took to rebuild VIR and Lime Rock, build Barber and Miller Motorsports Park plus a bunch of smaller venues (like NJMP), I can tell you that it will take $300M minimum to build something even remotely close to being capable of hosting that event...
