I hit 3rd to 4th at about 40 mph - the "N" letter appears and the 612 is in neutral.

At a little over 10k if I drive it will it cause damage? I had a nice run scheduled for tomorrow but not worth the drama of a Sunday breakdown.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Doesn't sound like clutch slipping. The gearbox gave you neutral instead of an upshift? did it do it more than once?

I get some true slip on my driveway since its gravel and the car doesn't like it, esp in Reverse, but once I'm on regular tarmac, my car's fine.

The car will report its clutch wear % through its OBD connection @ the dealer...

It did this once two days prior and again last night three times within a few miles.

Could be battery going bad? The trans does not like the batt down and goes to neutral if it is going bad. Mine did this and I just needed a new batt. Just a thought.

    Thanks - interesting

It is pretty consistent when shifting from 3rd to 4th.

On another note a guy is looking for a OTO and I gave him your name - or should I say attempted to as I was close. If you look at the 612 other threads you will see it.

Doug- Unfortunately, those are the symptoms of a clutch starting to go. I would take it to the dealer and see if a PIS (point of initial slippage) adjustment will help and they can also tell you how much the clutch is worn. The good news is a clutch replacement on a 575/612 is not that difficult. It does involve sliding the transaxle back or removing it, depending on the technician's preference. Brian Crall removes the transaxle.

Good info. I had forgotten about that. Another 612 owner had the sensor done under warranty, but decided not to put in a new clutch, even though it would have just been the cost of parts because the clutch had to be R&R'd anyway. Unluckily for him, his clutch went away very quickly after the warranty work.

If it is warrantied, Doug, I would definitely think about having them replace the clutch at the same time. About $3K in parts for the clutch and T/O bearing, but free labor. Same parts for my car (575M).

I believe my sensor recall was performed - you guys are a wealth of information.

These responses make it so much easier to own a Ferrari - amazing

I will keep you posted as its headed to the shop Monday a.m.

I can live with stuff breaking and the only thing hurt is my cc. - Ricambi is my 1st call.

We had exact same symptoms in our 2005 612. Turned out to be simple adjustment of a sensor. Took it into dealer for adjustment under warranty and were able to happily drive the car for another 40K miles with no issues, and no clutch replacement.

    Just another data point...

Wow - well I am headed over to the Ferrari service center today. That is amazing and this may sound dumb but it kinda bums me out.

My guess is you are right cause I had other issues a few months back and recall the clutch was at 40% wear.

I love when stuff breaks and they take my car apart. My Healey has been in parts for almost four years and I still get a kick out of knowing that at some point I am going to hang out and watch a mechanic put it back together. The poor body guy - I was there almost three times a week - of course I came bearing gifts - beer. I could go on forever about this, not to bore you but I even have two replacement engines for my 69z28 in hopes my son may blow up the 327 I put in for him to ruin.

Terry if it is an easy fix it sucks for you. :)

As you know I will zing over a million questions on how to make the performance and asthetics better. The amazing part is you answer every one correctly with a source to purchase.

Doug, I saw your car at STL Motorsports this afternoon (I was in C'fld for a meeting and stopped by). I probably just missed you. any news yet?

also, did you see that Rossa Corsa 612 out back? who the heck owns that one? not the best color for that car, but interesting that there's at least three in STL now (yours, the red one, and JPM's dark blue one).

Bummer I missed you and the C&C run! Looks like it went off pretty smoothly and had more cars than any one of the Ferrari Club runs. I assume you lead the parade with that new whale tail.

I was in and out, Claudia was there dropping off pictures from the Spirit Airport rental / beat the crap out of brand new demo day. Manager told me that he had a run of 612's, I have no clue who owns them all but I will be back tomorrow. I took Corbin there and he flipped over the Grey / Orange LP Limited. Of course it was easy for me to say if you want the car it is all Urs dude. He looked at me like I was bonkers - he said at what cost, smart kid as I replied it will be at the same cost of college and if you drive it home be ready to start work Tuesday. Sad part is I was hoping he would say okay.

Doug- My front MovIt ceramics are complete in Germany and should ship soon. Photos of the installation job should follow. My car may end up at SEMA in November to show off their brakes. Rears should be installed by then.

    Good luck on the clutch.

You guys were right it was a adjustment of the sensor.

Wow - that is a HUGE honor. My guess you are the first Ferrari with Novitec and MovIt.
Did you tell them that show cars with factory display mods cost the exact amount of parts and labor to install the system?

Wait I never realized the MovIt were ceramics! I was at the service center today and the 612 had Novitec set up and the owner said he is switching to Ceramics. I wish I had his info to send him your story.

Cant wait to see the wheels with those calipers and ceramics.

That's good to hear. Now you just need to make up another reason for taking stuff apart. Somehow I suspect you'll find a reason... :)

Doug- I love a happy ending. Yes, ceramics. Photos when I have them. 396x40 mm, billet calipers, really pretty and the rotors have lasted 500,000 miles in accelerated testing.
