Thanks Tony! Looks like they purchased some of EVO's content in order to run their own story. I wish some of the images were available at Desktop resolution, especially the ones of the LeMans winner, which funny enough, appears to have a rear tire that is short on air. :D

The Le Mans winner is GTR #01R, the original development car for the racers and it has always been, and probably will forever be, owned by McLaren.

It started life in the silver/orange livery seen below and might have remained that way but for a Japanese man who was eager to go racing with a McLaren F1 GTR at Le Mans in 1995. All of McLaren's privateer teams had already secured their sponsorships for that race when his request arrived, so the decision was made to lease #01R to the Japanese company for the purposes of running under their 'Ueno Clinic' sponsorship. They brought along Japanese driver Masanori Sekiya as one of the trio who eventually piloted the car. McLaren recruited the help of an outside firm known as Lanzante Motorsport to assist with running things during the race and the other pair of drivers brought in were both quite experienced names - Yannick Dalmas and JJ Lehto. I have read there was a clause in the lease contract that was supposed to allow the Japanese team owner to purchase the car following the Le Mans event... unless it actually won the race. The rest is history as they often say.

The car was displayed with other McLaren F1s at the Goodwood Festival a week after the Le Mans victory, still dirty and scarred from the battle in France. It appeared there again in display of Le Mans winners in 1999, all cleaned up at that point, and then was not seen again until August 2004 when the McLaren Technology Centre was opened in Woking. The photo with the three drivers was taken that day, and since then it has made infrequent appearances on the boulevard inside the facility that borders the lake. It even appeared recently in a press shot for the new McLaren MP4-12C as they are keen to link their great heritage to this new effort.

An interesting tangent on the Le Mans winner - the Brunei Royal Family were very keen to purchase it from McLaren following the race, but Ron was not interested in letting go of such an important piece of McLaren history. Instead McLaren built GTR #09R up for them as a replica of #01R. Typical of Brunei's collection, there aren't any great photos of #09R, but the last image below is one taken from a portion of a scanned photo that proves it is over there.

mcman is correct - that is the Mercedes McLaren SLR production line behind the glass in the shot with #01R and the three drivers.

Now that the run of SLRs is complete, they're presently using that same area for assembly of the MP4-12C Validation Prototypes. Perhaps photos you have seen of that caused the slight confusion?.

Concurrently, just outside the Technology Centre they are constructing a new building called the MPC or McLaren Production Centre (yes, very original name ;)) in order to build the new customer McLarens starting sometime in late 2011.

20 years of the McLaren F1
We celebrate one of the most significant, most intriguing and most downright desirable cars that motoring has ever seen. We start with the biggest ever gathering of F1s, before meeting some of the main men involved in its conception and design, Messrs Murray, Stevens and Dennis. We also drive Rowan Atkinson’s at 200mph, delve into the F1’s legendary Le Mans win and go on a Stateside trackday in one.

Is the blue one mentioned in the story you linked, the blue one with the black wheels that is active on whatever forum Peloton usually mentions?

The owner of that car posts under the screenname 'flemke' on PistonHeads.com. He has spent a good part of 6 or 7 years working to improve certain things about his F1s handling and braking, and has spent a considerable amount of time sharing the details of his efforts over there. The current "Flemke - Is this your McLaren?" thread is labeled "Vol 4" (I think it might be Vol 6 actually) and has stretched to 200+ pages so far. While the discussion has taken several non-F1 related tangents along the way, all-in-all it has been a really informative read.

Hello to everyone on this thread, I am new to this thread but i have been fascinated by the McLaren F1 - and one inparticular for at least 4 years now.

I look forward to being part of future discussions and getting a much larger knowledge on these cars than what I already do.

In my first post I would like to ask you all, but Peloton25 inparticular (as you seem to have a vast knowledge and you seem to have a large library of McLaren F1 pictures) basically what I would like to ask is: what information do you have with regards to #73, #73 is my favourite of all F1's and I have the most knowledge on this one car but i would love to further it.

Any information, pictures you may have (but not from ************** as i already have these) or if you know of the cars location in the world - in my most recent picture of it it is on a Florida Registration Plate.

    Thanks in advance

The last time that #073 was displayed publicly to my knowledge was March 29th, 2008 at the Festivals of Speed in St Petersburg, Florida. I'd hesitate to confirm where the car might be now as I've got nothing concrete to base that on. There was some rumor of the owner selling off some of his collection, and certainly a few of his previous cars have found new owners. Not sure about the fate of the F1 yet.

I will say that at the beginning of this year there was a user on another forum who confirmed seeing a car he believed (based on photos I shared) was identical to #073 in the Carmel/Monterey area of California twice during 2009. The first spotting was in May and the second time in October, so unlike most times an F1 has been spotted in that area it wouldn't have had anything to do with the Pebble Beach weekend.

Sorry I can't be more help.

    Thankyou for the help

The F1's fitted with the HDF kits really are my favourite ones. Are they a lot of them fitted with the HDF kit, as i can only recall 3? are there any more that you, or any one else knows of?

By my count it is 9 at the moment, formerly 10.

Missing from your list are #059, #072 and the mystery silver one below with the unknown chassis number. One could assume the possibilities for that one should be limited to #057 and #066 but that's speculation at the moment.

I've got zip on it besides that pair of photos. The only thing I am fairly certain of is that it is not either of the other two silver ones we've accounted for.

The one thing that springs to mind is it could be #069, as that car started out Mercedes Brilliant Silver (which that color appears to match) and so if the Downforce Kit was fitted to it prior to the repaint to carbon/black then that would be one possibility.
