Just got the news, my cams need re-shaping (read: welding) as slightly worn and not of very good quality. It seems an endemic problem with the lack of hardness.
Now for the good part...about $ 1,000 more, than buying new ones from Superformance or Dino.de.
Obviously, I am very interested in new ones.
Now, for the question: has anybody tried any of them? I am interested in the standard, stock version, nothing high(er) performance. If you have, probably they have not racked up K's of miles, yet what is the opinion of "your engine builder"?
    Thank you.
    Regards, Alberto

I used the standard ones on the engine that is on the test stand so I really can't tell you about longevity. Most likely they are better than the originals.

Alberto, new cam profiles are very dependant the current setup of your engine. Is the engine stock or has the compression been raised? If so, what is the compression? The superformance upgraded cams will actually hinder most of the low end performance if you have a stock compression engine.

Dignini - I do not believe that there are different cams for different markets. The parts book does not illustrate different part numbers. Perhaps others have seen these "U.S." cams, but I have not.

I´m in the same situation and asked same question some months ago without real sucess. A agree that new cams will probably have a better quality than factory ones.
I had one NOS cam which was worn after only 15k miles. The main problem with the cam durability is that after a coldstart it takes too long till oil gets in between the cam and the shims. The right oil filter which stays filled is a must. As the best solution we found out is drilling .7mm holes in each cam which imediately sprays oil on the critical area. I would be carefull with tunning cams as you need to be sure that they will have at 8000 rpm no contact to the piston.
    Regards
    Nico

Thank you all guys, I am really looking for stock grind, don't really see the need for more frantic RPM's...I am really interested Nico, on the location of the holes as you mention, possibly you can post a photo?
