Yup apparently the person who bought that car at auction had the money take the engine out and throw the car away, nice.

unbelievable - sold last summer at auction for $121,000; drivetrain removed and now on ebay. I think I'm pissed, but waiting for more facts.

    I have asked the seller . . .

    What a beautiful car.
I am thinking that the car may have been stolen just for the engine, to go in another more popular model, still, it just doesn't make sense.

This is just a guess on my part, but the ebay seller name (and location) may speak for itself. Just a guess, but- you know- Res Ipsa Loquitor.

    Best,

I imported this car from Spain to S FL (previously owned by another on this forum). In my opinion, this was a great GTE; if I knew then that this was going to happen I wouldn't have sold her. It makes me sick that a really nice car like this was butchered for the sake of a spare racing engine.

Now that Classiche is making replacement blocks wouldn't that be a source for a spare?

I'm definitely pissed. If the owner is so rich why not just get a "replica" engine made?

It's just unfncken believable and if any @rsehole posts on here again about how wonderful replicas are that use genuine 60's Ferraris as donors I personally think they should get a life ban from this and any Ferrari enthusiasts site.

Very, very sad. Looks like a lovely car.

Can't imagine what the previous owner will go through when he sees this!

Good comment ,having seen these cars in action on various runs, they run so sweet. Why would you do this to a good looking car,its a rape.
I'd like to know Marcel M's thoughts on this type of buggery.

All the components to make a new GTO or TR or whatever you fancy can be had new.

Why is there nobody offering packages, complete with chassis, engine, gearbox, so things like this don't have to happen?
It reminds me of the 250 PF coupe that was bought at auction just to have it's engine ripped out.

Well, I am one of the previous owners.

3787 was my first Vintage Ferrari, and it was the igniter of the passion. I enjoyed the car immensely for four years, restored the interior to a very, very high standard (as you can see from pics), rebuilt the electrics and the engine and adapted it to unleaded, and probably enjoyed that baby more than any of the others, because it was my first.

    And now this...

I hope this will serve just a little bit to shed the necessary light on the people responsible for this sort of horror.

The traders that facilitate and profit from the deals, the mechanics and bodybeaters that build the fakes, but above all the rich and tasteless individuals who make it all possible, by prefering appearance and pretention to history and conservation, and hiding afterwards behind hypocrisy or deceit.

We are tolerant of the endless and vain posts about replicas on Fchat, we have been tolerant of a man who posts and misrepresents the authenticity of his car as well as his participation in an event, and we are tolerant of these people bringing these horrors to shows and rallies. Why?

And yes, I know, It's their car, they can do with it what they want, if it was so precious why did you sell it, etc...

    A sad and depressing day.

Well Onno, you know me a bit, so you might have an idea.

Perhaps this should have happened before the Mille Miglia; it could have illuminated the discussion in another thread.

Cool. In a few years we will have a fake TR at the MM that its owner will define as another "authentic replica".

Such acts seem to reflect the world we live in, at least in some ways. Suppose we value intangible values much less nowadays. Very sad and it it bothering to see such a "loved" car to be in such a state. Jimmy

wonder if the guy whom pulled the motor out of it ,gave any thought to what would happen to it in the future?
So what motor do you put in it,if a V12 is not available?

"Buying" organs from "donors", something similar ? I would doubt there is any thoughts to the aftermath. Isn't Ford V8, often the outcome ? Money rules ? Jimmy
