Hey all. Not a Dino guy but I have a couple items that a guy is coming over to buy from me. One is a fitted car cover that we have established a fair price for. The other is the fiberglass trim piece that goes in the trunk and covers up the rear panel, tailights and such. The one I have is original and mint with the exception of one small area on the edge of the part on the right or passenger side of a US-market car.

How much should I charge for this? I'm not trying to make a killing, just want to sell it for more or less what it is worth.

At Dinoparts it is 185 Euro which is around 200 $.

Thank you! All Ferrari Parts Inc. has new repros for $300 US, so I'm thinking $200 is fair for this one.

That price may be on the low side. The repro ones being sold are thermoformed plastic, which is very light weight and cracks easily. (just like the originals) I have never seen a fiberglass version before, so I assume it is a very early part. Perhaps from a 206 and worth more?
My 73 Dino has the plastic version.
The fiberglass version would be much more durable and desirable.
Perhaps this is a custom made piece.

Hmmm. I never considered this might be a repro. I was told it was for a '72 246 GT, but anything is possible. It is certainly fiberglass and in really nice shape. Almost too nice to be 40 years old but what do I know.

I wonder if it isn't just someone's handy work.

took an original piece and did some fiberglass reinforcing to it.

    Certainly a possibility.

I think you may be correct on that Dave. The face grain is exactly like mine and all the others i have seen and the more i study the photo's the more it looks that this is DIY reinforcing!
However, a good idea i think.

I believe this could be the case also, and it looks very well done,
The resin appears to be crystal clear, therefore probably surfboard quality stuff.

This repair method would be a very good trick to use on the console pieces that break so easily. Some of the parts were made with cheap plastic thermoforms that get brittle with age.

Can you tell if the trim panel is plastic on the textured side Kiesan?
If it isn't, most likely someone used an original to make a mold, and then made a part from the mold. Painting would be required after trimming and fitting.

It does appear to be nicely done and it certainly would take some of the worry when working with these pieces 'cause they are brittle.

I bought one on e bay and paid almost $400 dollars and got into a beef with the seller to boot. It does not have the fiberglass reinforcing on the back but looks like yours in every way

Yes I think almost certainly this was a nice, undamaged original or repro part that was then reinfoced with the glass-fibers. The textured side is plastic no doubt. If you look closely you can see the border between the fiberglass and the plastic.

Would anyone like to own this part for their 206/246 Dino? $200 includes US shipping.

The issue with the rear batchboard (technical name for this part) is that it must be flexed to get in/out of the trunk. That causes cracks.

This item is for Dino's that have the license plate lights on the trunk lid rather than in the bumper ends. That's what the holes are for...the lid switch that turns the license plate lights on. Earlier Dino's (eg, L, M series) with the license plate lights in the bumper ends do not have such holes in this piece.

Also, my info says that originals are molded plastic just like the spare tire area batch board.
