I just spoke to Ron the owner, very nice guy. Said he has a deposit on the car, I told him if it falls through to call me. Tony
VIN # 1121384 means it is a S3 car, as they begin from 312 onwards. Late USA QV era small wing. Side-markers are the sunken type built into the fenders. Leather dash (at this point in S# production I might still expect mouse-hair?). Speakers inlaid on door sill panels (rather than underneath them). Aftermarket driving lamps fitted. PZero tires. Later Vitaloni door mirrors fitted (these first showed at the very end of S3 production?). LP500S/QV window cranks.
The owner said he was in the repair business and did all the work himself. I mentioned that the car must have been lowered at some point, his reply was: Ah huh... I did not get into the incorrect mirrors, wing & dash since he said he has a deposit.
was wondering what wing would have been the correct one for the car? and I thought after the S2 cars they went to a leather dash? last question which mirrors or better yet would someone have a picture of what the correct mirrors should be? I did not leave the deposit on the car, was looking to possibly but had these same questions and was not real sure about it.
S, I think you will find that if an S3 came with a wing, it was the big bad steeply raked end-plated Eu version. You are correct S3 cars went to a leather dash, but only towards the very end I think. This car is mid-S3 production. In 1981 this car would have been supplied with "flag" mirrors. But here too, I think these type appeared at the end of S3 production. Hope this helps.
Thanks Joe, yes that does help. I wonder when and why in the middle of a production series S3 they would do changes like the dash and mirrors?
Changes were random and often in the middle of the production of a variant. Case in point, halfway through the production of the S1 cars they went to a different set of gauges. I guess they couldn't wait for progress!
The potential new owner has contacted me. I will be inspecting the car. If all checks out and the deal goes through, I'm sure he will reveal himself
Joe and Tony are correct: the car looks lowered the correct wing for this S3 car would be the big one-adjustable with side plates (see pics) this small flat wing was likely added at a later time there are some minor things to be corrected, still if the car is sound (and mileage correct) it is a very interesting car Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Time to have some fun with this car: By the way Tony used , the possible new owner is someone we know. 2 things my gut tells. 1)it will not leave the US. 2)I say John H., I seem to remember he was looking for for an early car a while back. Anyone else?
I aquired a magazine recently with a reprt on a drive with bob Wallace on i think the number two countach on a run form Monaco back to the factory. had heard of the magazine before or seen the article. Pic on front is of an orange LP400 Is it widely known? Paul xx
Paul I think thats 1120106. I got your PM a week ago, sorry I forgot to respond, and no worries by the way
To be precise, it is only the front end that sits low. Also, lets not assume someone intentionally lowered it. It could be sitting low as a result of almost 30 years of existence...
Looks pretty nice. Just a list of minor items that can get corrected easily. Sure did not take long for it to get snatched up. Hope someone here got it.
At the Tokyo Nostalgic Car show last week. The Arancio/Nero LP400 is 1120186, still as original as when it was delivered via Seaside Motors (SSSA sticker still on rear panel). Argento/Rosso QV DD. Normally the rear end falls down, not the front... Amazing pictures from Japan, the silver QV is gorgeous.
Speaking of car shows, here are some pictures I took from the 1984 Chicago Auto Show. I was 10 years old at the time, and this was the first Lamborghini I ever saw! Needless to say I was blown away and hooked on the Countach ever since. When you looked around at other cars in 1984 this was mind blowing. From that point forward owning a Countach became my ultimate dream. Sorry for the pic quality, but again I was 10 and using a Kodak instant camera....
