So far this seems to be not much more than a proposal...

I am completely certain that if the land was bought or even under contract Hellmund (sp?) would have announced it... I suspect who ever owns that land is seeing $-signs now...

I hope this is pulled off,... but I find the lack of substance concerning.

FWIW, I think Austin is a great choice for a track. Very "american". scenic. and a destination with far more to offer than just the race.

I'll second that. Being an architect, I can tell you that if I had been working on a project for over two years I would have at least a few tantalizing images, drawings or tidbits that I could trot out to give the project credibility. I can understand secrecy if there are a few key land deals to wrap up or some such thing, but there should be something tangible to share that would give the project an air of reality. Thus far this looks quite similar to the post announcement days of the USF1 program. I am hoping I am wrong as I would love to head down to Austin for a GP.

Actually one of the guys had been to Austin and loved the place. He talked about 6th Street and the music scene. He also thought it was unlike most American cities referring to it as "attractive". The other two guys had not been to Austin but travel to the US regularly to cover ALMS.

I cant wait for this race. I have a friend that lives very close to Austin, and I bet the track is going to look great.. even if its not an Abu Dhabi.

Speaking as one of the Europeans you are patronising I'd like to say that a lot of us have lives outside Ferraris and Motor Racing - you'd be surprised how many of us have actually done tourism in and around Austin as a result

Or would you rather we stay away ?

Please don't lead others to believe that the rest of Texas is anything like Austin. Austin is a fantastic city, beautiful territory, a great attitude, a growing technology hub, best airport (live music & good food) in the country, etc. The rest of Texas, not so much. It would be like characterizing Colorado (another conservative oil rich state) as being like Boulder.

Congratulations on the F1 race, I'm certainly pulling for Austin!

Agreed. This is just Bernie USING this individual to say....'see teams of F1, I am trying to get you a race in the US'. There is not much to this effort at all. Its hype and the only benefactor is Bernie. The timeline is unrealistic if nothing, nothing at all is in place. F1 at Indy is more plausible than this mess.

Personally I went to Boulder and was appalled for a number of reasons, but that is another discussion for another time. Additionally, I have a close friend as well as family that live in Dallas and I think it is a fantastic city.

There is nothing wrong with "conservative" states.

Who knows?? It gets pretty frustrating (which is why I can understand Dave's perspective) but dag gone it I want it to happen...why the secrecy? Maybe a few business deals haven't gone through yet OR this could be the biggest rope-a-dope yet by the evil pygmy.

Is there anyone who doesn't want it to happen?

OK possibly Bernie who may still be angling for Indy, AKAIK everyone else wants to see it happen.

Tavio means that Tilke has "the specs" FIA wants.....

I design hospitals from similar 'standards" but they are still site specific, and that's a lot of work PAST the 'standards"....

I got tossed right into the middle of the Houston Grand Prix from the start, by fate.

It takes someone who can start writing checks and keep doing it until Race Day, and they'd better cash, the first one that does not the vendors will sieze up, and they are 'done'....

Tavio is bragging about "18K emails in three hours" or whatever, he'd BETTER mobilize constructions forces soon, and large, or his window to complete this thing will slam closed.

"Just because you have nine women together in the room, doesn't mean you can have a baby in one month.."
