I have a new Scuderia that I am going to track in July. The oil present in the car is about a year old but there is only about 400 miles on the car. The question is do I change oil before the track or after it has been tracked, or change it before and after.

The current oil is OLD even if it has but a few miles on it. The acid neutralizers have been at work protecting the engine while yo have neglected it.

Thus, the oil should be changed before going to the track.

While at the track, you will consume ot additive package that protects the engine at high pressures, high temperatures, and high RPMs. Thus, you should change it after you get back from the track.

My rule of thumb is that I will go to the tack with as many as 1000 miles on the oil and change it afterwards. However, since I put about 4000 miles on the car every year, it is unlikely that my oil will be "that" old. I also change the oil in the down time of the winder, along with all other fluids in the vehicle (excepting battery acid).

You should not put more than 4 track weekends on the transmission fluid, and you need to fully flush the brake fluid before each trace weekend.

    Hi Mitch,

Just a question since we are on this. I put on about 5k mles on the car every year of which maybe 1500 consist of city driving and the rest on high speed highway driving (ave 120mph) and almost no tracking. Car is used once a week and always warmed up before moving/revving.

Should the oil be changed every 6 months or yearly? Climate is hot and humid all year round.

Thanks in advance for the tech advice.

You can probably go a full year. But you can also test your oil after 6 months to see what it is doing. I use this company:

I would change the oil right now and then again right after the track event.
