Heck could we get back to making the components that make the engine go Impatiently waiting for engine assemble photos ... and I want to see those flippin sexy exhausts back on her!!! Pete
I agree completely sir! Although we still reserve the right tease you incessantly! Shiny Side Up! Bill
Good idea!! If I lived within a reasonable drive, I'd either buy a $10 ticket or turn up with at least some beer or a bottle of wine. Sadly, I'm thousands of miles away. All the best, Andrew.
yeah, but making the difference (ferrari v8 vs custom v12) obvious (to ferrari-lovers, the rest of the pack won't notice until they compare it to the 308 next to it) adds to the fun. either way, this will probably end up looking way nice and we will all be calling our insurance companies to see if our insurances cover "computer EDD (excessive drooling damage)"
First proper drive . It is unlikely that the first start will be drama free and thus that would be unfair and put poor Mark under huge pressure. Pete
As we get closer to the first fire- I will help Mark by organizing a HorsePower Pool... We're still figuring out details but how would you think about $10 a bet with some of the proceeds going to the closest guess for peak HP on the dyno? We could run a side bet on Torque also. We'll figure out details and such, but I think it could be kind of fun and since we are all enjoying this little thread so much and it's our way of saying thanks to Mark. I'll put the first 5 bets in too- Thoughts? (Be gentle and remember Mark has 1,000 votes on this).
I got a little time in the shop today finally.... I put the ends on the airbox. The Air hoses are going to need to come in from the ends so I'll probably need to cut some of this back out, but it just seemed easier to make them then think.... I agree. I'm just trying to visualize how big the air hose are going to be. Are we talking about a couple of 2" diameter holes on both ends? And then i guess there's going to be air channels to each of the TB's right?
I would try for the flat oval configuration like the stock carbureted 308's have. Perfect fit. One on each end
Yeah...but with a couple 6" dia hoses That is basically the plan....maybe more from the bottomish though to keep the airbox looking kind of how it is on top.
exactly....you seem to be one of the few that understands the first start of a fresh engine with all new electronics can take hours or even days before the engine starts and idles...then the tuning and break-in begin so it will be 300 miles before the engine sees anything near redline and at least 500 miles before it sees full power. Then it will be time for a prope drive....of course I need to finish it first and it's looking more and more like it will be spring before any talk of first drive is anything but talk.
That's it, I am going to find a big puffy Ferrari sticker and shove it right next to your license plate
The plenum looks great, except. Except it looks too "skinny" It needs to be about twice as tall as it is. I know that ruins the fit - cut a hole! Sorry, but that's how I see it. Then your big tubes will blend in perfectly... Cover the hole with a bulge. Leave two channels, one on each side, for the 6" supply hoses coming up at an angle from each side. That way the plenum would be covered, but the huge supply hoses would be partially exposed, teasing about what is under the cover. Stock, no, but it would look very, very, cool, and did you really think you were going to get away with this stock charade??
It's going to get a little thicker/taller looking when the bottom radius goes on....hopefully I'll get my urgent work finished up today and can get back to finishing this airbox mornings and weekends instead of having to lock myself in the study to write test protocols and reports
Yesterday's thoughts on the drive home were about air cleaners. I'm thinking to keep the whole stock theme going I should hunt up 2 stock CIS air cleaner boxes or at least the lids and mount 1 on each side of the engine bay. I think that will mean I also need to hunt up an early style expansion tank....I'll have to see how the air boxes sit in the engine bay. So, anybody got a line an an aircleaner box/lid or 2?
I don't know if this might be helpful, but the air filter housing for a 246 Dino might be an option. I know finding 2 might be a little bit of a task, but there would be alot more surface area on the filters compared to the 3X8 type if I'm not mistaken. I have one from a car I'm working on that I can get all the dimensions if you are interested. Also, if you like the K&N's, that would be an option as well. Good luck and thanks for sharing this project!!! http://www.eurospares.co.uk/userImages/065/Large/065_009.gif
Silly question, but why not use a 365 GTB/4 Daytona airbox? It should already have the right geometry and will fit a standard filter. Regards, Art S. PS. Great project!
