Very nice. How much was the chassis?

What motor are you putting in? Are you limited to any modifications you can do?

I got a great deal on it for $1500. He threw in 2 extra sets of tires as well as an extra seat and the front brakes as well. I will be starting in one of the lower classes with a Honda 6.5hp 4 stroke engine that cannot be modified. It won't be insanely fast but very competitive and a good starter series because I won't have the power to make up for mistakes. I'll move up to Rotax and than shifter eventually.

First thing to do, don't tune anything! You will learn way more about driving by not thinking about what to change or how some little thing is going to make you quicker, and you will get faster sooner as well. Enjoy!

if you value your liver and spleen, cut the shifter mount tab off the right side tube by the gas tank. you'll have more than a few 'tank slappers' as you get started and those tabs are very dangerous. if you ever want to convert it back to a shifter you can weld the tab back on - it might look messy but your insides will look worse if it punctures you.

Congrats, great looking kart. While at first you shouldn't be changing settings every outing, it's very important that you DO set up the chasis right for your local track. Have someone help you, may be the guy who sold you the kart.

Prepare your wallet. You will out grow the 6.5hp engine within weeks.

Make sure the seat is comfortalbe and that it's properly set within the manufacturers specifications. Seat position affects the kart's handling a great deal.

    Buy a hard rib protector.

It's lots of fun. PM and I can send you some literature on general chasis set up.

I outgrew the engine like you said! I Moved on up to the rotax int. class. I placed 6th out of 12 guys and started 12th. I have another race coming up in a week. In the meantime i got a redbull f1 graphic kit, a mychron, and a bunch of other little goodies.

Yup they are from godecalworks. They really are great. The decals were a little hard to get right but only due to the Stilo body work having a few tough curves. The mychron has been my best friend since getting it.. I can finally fine tune my laps. I've learned about jetting now (have had whatever jetting and needle position it came with) so i hope to be a bit more competitive for this next race as well as having a little more experience under my belt with this engine. I will still have to start last because i'm still holding my rookie status but the race after i'll be able to place for starting positions.

    Awesome!

I went go-karting (13bhp/390cc/68mph) for my Stag Do back in April and it was great fun! I'd really like to do it again. What I liked best was that you could either spin the rears under acceleration or lock them under braking, so it took skill to accelerate as fast as possible or brake as effectively as possible - you couldn't just mash the pedals and hold the accelerator down for the whole lap like at most of the 15-20mph circuits I'd been to up to that point. To get quick laps in, we actually had to use the practise sessions wisely.

I started each practise far too aggressively (though not insanely, I wasn't sliding off the track completely) and then slowed down until I was making it around each corner and staying on the racing line. By the time we got to the races, I had it sussed. My fellow party-goers on the other hand were trying to edge it faster each time - effectively approaching it from the other tactical angle - and they all did well in the practises but then spun off in the races. So, for what was the first time out for all of us, my tactics seemed a little better. I came home with the little gold trophy which sits in my living room.

I've love to do it again and get into it more seriously - it was brilliant fun. I was really surprised at how physical it was... my forearms and neck really ached afterwards! :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.
