Conveying a message on behalf of Lung:

I had the privilege to drive the California at today's Club event. My Scuderia battery died when I went to pick the car up from the office.. However IA was graciously quick to offer me the California as a substitute which I gladly accepted.

The first thing I noticed when I slipped into the cockpit was how nicely engulfed I was by the smell of premium leather. Many cows were sacrificed for the interior. In shifting my seat, mirror adjustments and other necessities I noticed all the buttons and controls were finger tip and a short reach away. I felt wrapped in inside the car... but not suffocated. It just appeared that everything; switch, button or lever were closer than I expected.
    The drive...
The California was surprizingly nice to drive. A car that is compliant, fast yet "quiet". Pressing the start button came a familiar low rumble. It sounded like it meant business - not like those wimpy high pitch start ups. This car has torque, linear torgue - pulling all the way through the band. Torque still kicked in at 3000 rpm in 7th gear. Quite impressive. Gear changes was smooth and reasonably quick. There were only 3 settings on the manettino: "Comfort", "Sports" and "CST off". The main difference between Comfort and Sports was that the latter would pull longer and had more torque at the lower RPMs. Suspension was a tad soft but acceptable. Don't get me wrong, it's not like Bentley or Lexus soft. There was body roll on banking corners but did not feel like it was going to tip over. I would have like to see a seperate suspension button to stiffen it up a little, similar to the Schumacher button in the Scuderia.
Steering was sharp and direct - something u would expect from a Ferrari. The front mounted engine must hv helped plant the nose during turning. This California had the $15k rev LED limiter on the steering wheel. A must have option even on the California. Interior appointment was elegant and tasteful. Tan leather w brushed aluminium combination was distinct and sophisticated. It made the cabin feel fresh and lively. The Daytona electric Seats were very comfortable unlike the hard racing seats of the Scuderia. Aircon was strong and cold. The roof folded in less than 20sec. Operation was smooth and fast.
My only gripe was the IA set 90kmph speed limit warning... Beep beep! Beep Beep. So irritating.
Overall a very compliant and "gentle" Ferrari. Nothing too hardcore about this car. A Ferrari that can be used on a daily basis with no stress or drama. A car that I would be happy to have as my daily driver. A car that my wife would be comfortable driving too.
At $800k this "baby" Ferrari has enough mix of class, subtlety and grunt that will cater to the gentlemen driver, the wife, and the sportif individual.

Haha you're one step ahead of me! Looks like I don't need to post for him already :D

Haha don't get me wrong, I don't discriminate against female drivers. I just think their ideals and wants are different from us. What is suitable for us may not be suitable for them, vice versa.

Wow that's fast! Still saw you driving the 640 during ES CNY dinner. But you're right about the practicality. 599 is much easier as a daily driver though Jon may disagree with me :D

I remember Jon said that he used it as a daily driver at one point of time... It must have been the coolest daily driver in Singapore man!

Wow, ok cool. Always thought that when u wanted to buy a supercar brand new, it had to be ordered and delivered from the country of origin according to the specs u want. Didn't know u could just walk into the showroom and drive off with a brand new one in a couple of hours. But for these stock ones in the showroom, if lets say u guys were to tick more options, would they install everything here or would they just order a new unit and u have to wait for it to be delivered?
Sorry if I'm asking too much guys, just curious..:)

Yellow school buses ain't cool no more mate :p
It looks like a freaking boat from this angle. Managed to see one in KL, it was blue with wood trim and cream interior, looked like something MP would buy and set sail in!!

We don't! Same way that you fly a basic airplane, visual cues! Unless you really yank the stick at takeoff, you ain't gonna get a tail scrape. OR you have too little power on takeoff and rotate. Aircraft will not lift off and you leave nice long lines on the runway. Has happened before and you can kiss your license goodbye after that!

    But its so pretty :).
Maser cabrio at 500K... makes picking the Cali at 700ishK a pretty straight forward call, wouldn't you say?

Thanks lung, that was an instructive review. The only drawback - and deal-killer- to the Cali is that the distributor is IA. :)
But plenty of PI Californias..... and big savings to boot!

gee you kept that one quiet! Where have you been, haven't seen you around these parts for ages?

you're right about the 640 Tim. As for your Mum's car, I agree with what has already been said, go for the Cali. As for the Ghost, I love it but agree with King; most people will require a driver even though it's a "baby" rolls.

the white one was snapped up by OB of AP ;)

I wud hv been there when you parked. First car in & first car out. Too old to keep up with you young folk :)

yeh I do like the grand cabrio, but for an extra 200k I think I'd step ip for the horse over the trident.

i usually spec my cars and most first time buyers don't. when a new model is launched, unless you are a regular customer, you probably have to wait at least one year b4 you have a chance to buy one. most first time buyers just buy what have been spec by the distributor which is ex stock or on order. if you are not happy with the specs, you have to spec your own and wait for at least 3 mths. Distributors usually dont install options here unless they are things like car stereo. Most first time buyers are very excited to get their car and will not want to wait another 3 months.

actually IA is not that bad. They have lots to learn but boleh tahan. I usually prefer to stay away from PI cars unless the savings are major, ie 15% most PI cars are only about 10% difference and low OMV. Autonic has a drop head, 2.5 yrs old omv at 280K. Most drop heads are asking 200K plus pounds in uk i don't know how they get a 280K omv.
