At the end of rehearsal a few nights ago, the drummer, my lead guitar player (on bass), and I (on keyboards) decided to mess around a little with some old Jazz standards...

As always, we recorded it...bear in mind that the drummer is a Rocker, and had never played jazz before...and, it has literally been YEARS since I played jazz consistently...but we had fun...

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it...

Mike the keyboard sounded fantastic! I envy anyone who can play any musical instrument that well and a piano/keyboard to me is the best sound of all. You have great talent. I never knew you played, I guess I was to lazy to look at your homepage (my loss). I hope this comes across ok but the older I get the more I appreciate music with a dominant keyboard sound. I guess thats why I kind of like a lot of older Rod Stewart songs like Forever Young. :)

Thanks, Scott... I was playing on a Roland RD-150 that's about 5 years old... I have others, but this particular keyboard sounds great... Glad you enjoyed it...

How do you feel about Keith Jarrett?

I like Keith Jarrett, but (much like MY playing) I can only listen for so long before my head hurts...

    :D

But then, I'm that way with most genres...I tend to over-listen, over-analyze, and I think I've forgotten how to enjoy it sometimes.

Since getting to know him, I've been to some of his improvisational concerts. Not only is he an amazing player, the guy is a showman!

I also listen to the Dave Grusin Orchestral Album on a regular basis. All his stuff from the Milagro Beanfield War score is particularly fantastic.

I have never had the opportunity to see him live... only to listen to his albums... Same with Dave Grusin...., who is top-notch in my book...I'd love to see either or both in a live concert some day, and to meet them would be amazing.

If you hear about Keith playing by you I'll see if I can arrange that.

I doubt that he makes it out this way very often... but it's a nice thought...

    And, I appreciate it....thank you.

    Yay, a jazz thread! :D

Those recordings sound really great, especially Summertime. You're a great musician!

Darth, I saw Keith Jarrett when he came to symphony center not too long ago. It was one of his improvisation concerts. I was left speechless, such a cool performance! And oh yes, he's a showman alright. ;)\

    So you know him personally?

    Yes.

I especially like it when he yells, gets up and walks around, stalking his piano.....

What is he like as a person? I'd imagine he's a little bit strange... :D

Yeah, there was a lot of that. But hey, I'm all for it. To me, it's just his way of feeling the music on a whole different level. Kinda cool. :)

Eccentric is a better word. He knows how to live though.

If you're looking for anything to tackle, it'd be interesting to hear Jazz versions of these songs... ;)

    All the best,

I especially liked your very moody Summertime. Fly Me to the Moon is one of my all-time favorites.
