How true. He could have also said "driver X wins 2 races and suddenly they are rumored to replace me".

I suddenly like Massa quite a bit more. He is normally such a cheerleader that it's disgusting.

Yes. very true. Except for one thing....

A team's belief as to who can have the best chance to win becomes a self fullfilling prophecy.

When one driver "appears" to be dominate or the team believes one driver is better than the other, then the team pushes more for that "superior" driver and less for the other.

So, not everything is exactly equal. Number 2's have a much more difficult path to the championship. Just ask Ruebens.

Webber is just about in a position to make Vettel seems like number 2. A couple more victories by Webber and the German kid is going to be very frustrated. I wonder if that was part of what was in his head when he made the ill fated pass in Turkey.

yup. even TK stated that Danica had a bad start this year and has momentum now. i say "even TK" since this was after he got chopped by her in Texas.

His words line - up nicely with Mansell who said there are a numbers of drivers, who in the right car, can win the title.

Not one driver is completely superior.

You don't think there is a driver who, in the right car, is likely to win over all other drivers, also in the right car?

In relation to what Mansell said, the debate was who is the best driver. He said a number of drivers are capable of WDC title attainment. Not one driver is superior in all ways. They all have weaknesses of some type or susceptibility to certain circumstance. No one is perfect.

Well as regards to Mark Webber I have read that Redbull have extended Mark Webber’s contract until the end of 2011.

So I suppose one could consider that is a peace making sign.

I agree but the Barrachello comparison can't be made today. IMO, Today's drivers all have a shot, RB knew he wouldn't win (at Ferrari) from day 1. It's fair to say that everyone's path to the championship is difficult today, just ask Lewis, or even Jenson, he had to hang on towards the end last year.

A couple more wins by Webbo and Vettel won't be the only one frustrated.

i dont understand why people don't understand why red bull favors vettel. the guy is 22 and has already proven he can win and drive with the best of them. Webber has definitely answered a lot of critics, BUT that being said red bull are looking for the future, and it's Vettel. Massa's comments are dead on, but even if webber blows away vettel for the remaining races, I can't see red bull keeping him on much longer.

Understood and agree, but there was no need to change positions in the last race ... just let them finish as they were.

No team should ever ask a driver who is leading the WDC (the sole purpose of F1) to pull over and let his team mate past. That is where I have a problem. If Webber had less points than Vettel then absolutely, get out of the way, but he didn't.

(Schumi was as close to perfect as any driver I have had the pleasure to watch. Thanks, Michael. Time to re-tire.)

Webber and politics in F1. Best thing he can do is win the WDC. He will be in demand and RB will have a more difficolt time throwing him under the proverbial bus. What happens on the track is what counts after all, mates. ;)

Well, you sure about that ? Unlike his Ferrari days he started on equal terms, and was out performed, at Ferrari he was never on equal terms and was out performed (I see a trend here). Let's face it, he had to move to an uncompetitive team to be #1.

EDIT { Any chance the OP could post a link to the Massa comments ? I can't find that interview...

What I meant was that when he was at Honda/Brawn he was not a forced number 2 like at Ferrari and thus has as much chance at the WDC as Button but RB then proved to the world why he is a very good number 2.

    I was correcting Bdelp's comment:
Yes RB was a forced number 2 at Ferrari but he had his chance at Brawn and allowed himself to be out performed again.

Look at Massa's finishes this year. Look at Alonso's. Remove Alonso's one win.

Who would lead in points? How close would those two be in points? That should answer why Massa will be at Ferrari in 2011. If the Italian press has their way, it would be Alonso gone.

If I had my way, it would be Alonso gone.

Remove the leading driver's win to see where the runner up would be at?

With that approach you can rewrite the entire F1 history. We'd have new WDCs all over the place.

You beat me to it...I'm not as passionate on this debate as some, but remove a win to see where that would leave the WDC standings...seriously?
