Well that's pretty interesting. Get another opinion. When 2 out of 3 think the same thing then you might consider a "better" radiator.

spoke with George Evans today and he stated that if its on the highway on a cool night fans or no fans and temp does not go below 110to 120 c good chance rad is clogged (remember new water pump installed) and in his opinion boring rad is a bandaid.
so its 2 for 2 we will see...

I thought the rad got a complete service as well as the on-car emergency repair when it was a Bobileffs?

So is it getting and staying hot in a consistant manner like whenever it's over 70F outside, stock in traffic or something or is it at all seeming erratic and flashing up when it happens?

Has any of these guys used an IR gun on the car while it's hot to see how hot it is in all the various parts of the system? Trial and error on these cars is GD expensive.

If you do end up getting a new radaitor I'd be awfully temped to put a new set of fans on there. Those originals are pretty pitifull and the whole systems is a jackass design IMHO. I don't like pusher type systems. If it was a terrificly effective system when everything was brand new I'd say leave it alone but I don't think that's the case Gary and I know you'd like to drive the car briskly, eventually ...

Some guys have put in aluminum radiators but that will really show as non original. The fans less so and you can always keep the originals around.

Probably an unbelievable amount of work required for this one but it IS a series 1.

Interesting Bob. We all had seen this car on ebay before. Then it was in California, I think. I am disappointed with the photos they used. Even the previous auction used better photos. The only I do not like is a black interior.
I'm not a leather expert but can the black be redyed a different color?

    Bob;
regardless of how antique the system of cooling might be, my goal here is too keep everything as original as is possible . Both fans now work correctly via means of either otter switch or dash switch. If thermostat passes the heat test ( it should its new )and along with new water pump barely used from last year then I will look for the most original looking core i can find . Gus's car does not even need the second fan even on hot days in traffic so thats my goal . if i wanted to modify it then wouldnt it just be easier to buy a volvo LOL. I am sympathetic to the period and all they had not learned by then .

Yeah I figured as much but going for an exact core style match might be a bit over the top. If you can find a good radiator shop they might be able to configure the core flow differently so that it's a lot more efficient and you wouldn't even be able to see the difference. Lamborghini made some of these changes with the SIII version and I'm not talking about the different inlet pipe and thermostat housing which would show. When I had mine flushed they looked at the design and suggested improvements but mine wasn't in bad shape.

Has anyone put the IR gun on the radiator while it's getting too hot?

The pictures are now missing on this listing. Wierd.
I think you'd have to plan on a complete rebuild of that interiror anyway.

I meant did they shoot it top to bottom to see if it's producing a temperature drop i.e. is it working. I guess it's not terribly effective then. Is that what they're saying Gary?

got both fans fixed and then let it idle then drove it hard and then coasted thru traffic and it never went above 95c . Problem averted for now until I can find someone local to recore properly and still look correct.
    Thanks all !!

Now with new pictures. I wish they would have posted photos of the motor. Not sure it's worth the 20k. No?
Seats were redone at some point. Should have the holes. Correct? I guess I would consider it as I would change interior to a light color since it need to be redone..

Well Gary, I'm going to re-wire my fans(bad Otter switch) tomorrow and see if the old beast will work well enough for a trip to Le Belle Machinne. Keep us posted.

It's a series I probably reasonably complete but man is there a lot of work. I don't see any seat perfs. That's probably the least of the issues though. Espada specific parts are real hard to come by and expensive. Ask Gary. His was amuch better car than this one but not a series I.

It's been there a while so it might be able to be purchased for somewhat less. I bought one of the side windows from the same car and it was perfect.

Go have a look. I did that once at Gullwing. It cured me on the spot of takling a mess pile of a car.

The missing more & trans plus all the other details is such an obsticle that it's probably better to just fix the car as is and enjoy it as a very nice driver. Actually, you can do a lot more with that sort of motor for Waaaaaay less cash than you can with that old V12. it will of course never be the same or worth much money. Oh that's right Espadas aren't worth repair bills anyway. There are quite a number of Ghiblis like this floating around. Some of them in tip top shape too. They're always a hard sell but at least the V8 is more similar.

    Gary,

Are you loosing any coolant through the overflow tube to the ground or is the level staying pretty much constant?

Lucky Gary ... jeeze, who did you cross dude?
The tubes need to have the valve stems screwed to the rims. So were your rims leaking?
Mine have ordinary tubes as installed by the PO. I do need to change them but I have "other" priorities right now. I'm not sure why he did it but I'm ready for the possibility of leaky rims. I still have the original high-speed tube with the threaded tube stem form the spare. They were probably $5-10 bucks back then. The tubes you bought were what $100 each?
