Anybody watch this jerkoff on top-gear? First off, he's annoying/not funny, secondly, he slams the TR all the time for being ugly!?!?!? I really don't like this fellow!

Top Gear hosts have to say controversial things. I personally wouldn't call the TR shape "pretty", but it is appealling nonetheless.

Remember the Countach was his favorite car when he was younger, but he hated the car when he actually drove it.

james may is wrong and the millions of people the world over that consider the tr shape to be a motoring icon are right. move on.

clarkson is so blatantly anti american all the time its just disgusting. if/when americans act like that we get crucified. a brit does it and the world thinks its funny.

i was in a group of people in the pits at silverstone once and clarkson walked in. everybody jumped all over him to get his autograph and talk. i ignored him.

all that being said, i watch the show all the time since it is well done and interesting, even if i dont always agree with their opinions.

I agree with all points made thus far. American TV is still too "policitally correct" to allow many of the comments that these guys make on Top Gear. As for the show itself...it is the number 1 watched tv show in the world - now that says something. As also mentioned before...they do need to keep controversy going, because ratings are based on sensationalism - just the way it is. I watch Top Gear on BBC-American and I believe that some of the anti-American comments are edited out. I would actually like to hear everything. We are grown up enough to take a little criticism now and then.

I like all of those guys on the show....we have no really cool tv shows about cars in America. Our rules for "car television" are that the camera must be constantly moving, there must be constant burn outs and power slides, and you must NOT learn any actual facts about the car being shown. I just HATE the way we present cars in the US. There are occasional shows that are good, but the vast majority really suck.

I'm glad they didn't go through with plans to do an American version of Top Gear. We do have some decent shows: My Classic Car, Gears, Trucks, etc. There was a great show from Canada called Dream Car Garage...I loved that show - but it's off the air now dang it.

I always thought "American Idol" was the most watched show in the world. I also thought Simon was the funniest person on that show.

We need a 4th of July special for the US and have Simon and Jeremy do a 24hrs of LeMons. They'll drive 5.0L Mustang GT's and the winner won't be determind by laps or a clock...it'll be judged by John Force, Richard Petty and Tommy Kendall. They'll be scored on various techniques and over all showmanship. There should also be in car audio and cameras with lots of middle fingers and cuss words to bleep out.

    Now who's anti-american.

    Dear Ferraristi,

Ohhh....I loved that show.....the guys always showed such enthusiasm. I remember when they were doing a test drive on a 550...

" I want this car like I never wanted a car in my whole life"

...and the way he said it was so funny...

TG is number one in the world? I believe you, just surprised.

The show wouldn't work as well without the legendary Captain Slow. He's the perfect foil to JC, the bombastic anti-intellectual.

And I agree, American TV is too politically correct. Probably to protect those like the OP who get worked up whenever someone critiques a car he likes.

Seeing as one of their competitor's episodes (Fifth Gear) resulted in the British voting the Testarossa as the all-time most popular Ferrari, they might just be including Mr. May's comments regarding his dislike for the design to stir up a little buzz. Just a thought.

Top Gear America is slated to be aired on the History Channel. It's had a rough start, but producers are scrambling to bring it together.

The initial pilot episode was made at an airstrip in Southern California with Adam Carolla, Tanner Foust and Jesse James. To date, only Tanner Foust is a consideration and they are looking for two other hosts.

(As for the TR, it is one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever produced!)

JM's not much for cars taking up road real estate.

Not many outside States [not even Ford in US, IIRC] are still pushing, um, pushrods, so, they have a go.

I like 'em all. Never fail to give me a good laugh, at either's expense, or their own, be it country or individual.

clarkson is anti everyone - even the brits and their automotive 'industry' (e.g. BL)

you've gotta have a sense of humor to be proud of british cars ;-)

hearing his pokes at national traits is a refreshing change from US TV

hearing a bit of the truth at times may be a bit of a sting - but we're all big boys.

clarkson really loves the dutch.... swiss, italians and germans just as well as the yanks.
even the boys down under get it as well.

    refreshing... fun & entertaining.

    rgds,
    Vincenzo

I can see how some people may not deem the Testarossa to be their style. It is definitely out of the ordinary and controversial for its time. I just think calling it ugly is a longshot. I think that the Mercedes S550 is a neat looking car, but It definitely is NOT my style. I would never say an S550 is a flat out ugly car because it isn't! LOL.

While I once owned a TR and enjoyed driving it for a couple of years, it is certainly not a beautiful car...exotic looking with interesting lines, but not what one would call a pretty car IMHO...

Over in blighty, JC is accepted for what he is, a bit of a loud mouth but no harm done. He has made a career out of being different and saying things in a way that had never been said before i.e. " a car being so good looking it could snap knicker elastic at 50 yards" etc etc.

Anyway, us Brits seem to be on the receiving end of a bit of bashing of late??!!

I believe Clarkson sold his Ferrari to buy a Ford GT. He's not blatantly anti-american, he just doesn't like cars built by bean counters. There are several American cars I've seen him say he liked. The car/s he really enjoys getting digs in at are the various Porsche 911's. Hilarious to seem him try to smoke a Porsche branded pipe backwards once.

A few years back, during a Ferrari touring event driving through some winding roads in northeast Iowa we stopped to refuel in a small town. The gas station owner was eyeballing one of the wide, straked Testarossas in attendance. The TR owner asked the guy how he liked it and the gas station man said, "It looks kinda like some sorta eye-tallion corn picker."

I think the Americans complaining about being ridiculed need to get thicker skin. There is never a reference to us Dutch people without declaring us druggies waddling on clogs with a finger in a dyke. We don't go and complain on a forum about that, we just see it as JC running out of gags and we move on to the good stuff. It is great entertainment, that show. If you don't like Clarkson, May or Hammond, don't bloody watch it!

Oh, and the TR is ugly. Honestly. Truly ugly. But why does it matter what I think? It's only important that YOU and millions of others think it is beautiful!

Grow up. Move on. In our drugriddled country below the sea we say "Diversity gives spice to life". So I applaud every ugly TR I see on the road.

James May is a critical component of the Top Gear team; someone has to balance out the two hyperactive clowns (who, I admit, are perhaps those who make the show the success it has been)...

May's "solo appearances" tend to be very good and some of them certainly among the best ever in Top Gear, e.g. the one about the Bora.

I don't get it: why does the TR have to be ugly if it isn't beautiful? IMO, it's neither, but it definitely is a 1980s style icon and a very impressive car.

    Cheers,
    Gabriel
