Watching world cup soccer, and wondering what is the annoying background "buzz" on the tv audio. Sounds like a hornets nest. I find it so annoying that I may end up not watching many of the matches. I assume it is created by the spectators. Will it stop if there is a score (and I won't hold my breath for that)?

Thanks. ESPN needs to hire Bose to use noise cancellation technology to make the broadcast tolerable.

Most popular event in the world! Out of the 5 matches today, 3 ended in draws! Talk about exciting!

    LOL! I hate that crap...

us lowly Americans aren't sophisticated enough to understand the brilliance of a 90 minute sporting event ending in a tie ;)

+1 seems like that frequency could be removed from the broadcast somehow. I dunno I'm not a scientist lol.

Agree, wish they could do that.

The horns are a sad development.

You hear no cheering, no crowd singing team songs etc.

FIFA didn't ban them since they didn't want to "Europeanize" this World Cup. I hate the noise but yout eventually tune them out.

The noise has a decibel rating louder than a chain saw (they didnt say what size engine on the chain saw). As for the sport/event, it is exciting, if you understand it or ever have played it. I know its kinda rare here.....unlike football (really should be called handball), a player has to be fit and not weigh 300 lbs. Has to run for 90+ minutes.

WE also have been groomed to "prefer" our football/baseball/whatever, in large part cuz its what we've been exposed to, so we have aquired a taste for it. Madison Avenue leans toward these sports ....big dollars are the reason. Advertising every dang minute cuz the coach called time out, so hey, time for a beer/truck/potato chip ad. Soccer doesnt pay as well.

World Cup is the real World Series....no imposters. Funny....we call the winner of the Super Bowl the "world champion" when the teams are only from the US, and the statistical pool of the teams really is a fraction of that of a champion soccer team which competed in a statistical pool of about 3 billion people. Its a joke.

Still, I enjoy US sports. And we do have great athletes (who can forget Jesse Owens, Ali, and others).

    Hey, USA tied England!

    Of course...Look at the Stats:

17 million US viewers for the USA vs England Game

Higher than any of first 4 NBA Finals games or ANY World Series since 2004.

Not bad for an "irrelevant" sport.
