Today I received in the post an original rendition, by our world famous artist Bob Parks, of my little Camel.

I will post a photo later, but as you would expect it is truly spectacular.
It will take pride of place in my home on display.

Many thanks, Mr. Parks - it's exactly folks like you that make Aviation what it is.

Three cheers and one cheer more.

I still say that Bob should write his autobiography. Even what he's written about in this forum alone would make a pretty good book!

I just like to slop paint and I had never done a Camel. More stuff in the works, WW1 and WW2.

This is a picture of the full size artwork, 18 X 36. Other artist friends who are non-aviation art types have said " Dynamic". Whatever that means.

Thanks , Taz. I will probably be doing some more sinc e I do like it. Right now I'm working on a natural metal P-51...no markings or numbers. Then if someone wants their own special markings I can put them on a digital print. The natural metal P-51 is really good looking too. I love the WW1 stuff though, it is what I grew up with as a kid.

Russ, I'm so glad that you like the Camel art. The original is quite nice but too large for you to take with you in the airplane so that is why I sent the smaller print on canvas. I have never done a profile of a WW1 airplane and it seemed appropriate to execute one of an airplane that is alive and will fly. Forgive me for posting the image ahead of what I sent to you, I had it all ready to go and the quality might be a bit better since I photographed the original. I guess that things like this little piece of art reflect the need to somehow return the great joy that I have had in knowing those in the aviation community for it is a special place populated by special people who have contributed so much to this country and the world. I have sailed my own sailboat in the world of the " yachtsmen" and tried the car clubs but there is nothing to match those who fly. I have known and flown with giants in this arena and will forever hold them in awe. I don't know what it is but there is a comradeship and the single sense of unadorned purpose to embrace the simple joy of being in the realm of flight where you are permitted to escape the confines of the harsh rules of gravity and do things that can awaken the spirit or to sooth the soul.
So anyway, I have to share what I can do with those who have done so much for us .

    Very handsome...

I'd say beautiful, but that is reserved for women, I'm sure the Camel would blush if you called her beautiful...

    Thats a great looking piece.

    Great job and great subject.

Always thought the Camel was one of the better looking planes of its generation. Like the Mustang, it's designer was well aware beauty and function need not be mutually exclusive.

And Terry will like this too. I always thought the 111 was the best looking of its generation.

Brian- I always loved the looks of the Aardvark, too, not pretty, but functional. Was by far the best aircraft with which to fly in combat. We lost no F-111Fs or F-111Es in Desert Storm. Some of the pretty aircraft did not fare so well.

I have about a hundred original WW-I paintings, and Bob's compare very well with the ones I have. Nice touch and very faithful to detail, and the Camel is actually one of the tougher WW-I aircraft to capture accurately.

Received mine today. Absolutely beautiful, and a giclee, too. Many thanks, Bob. It is going to be hung right in front of where I am sitting now.

    Beautiful Bob,
They say flying is an art and looking at that painting I'd say you must be one hell of a pilot!

Thanks much. I wasn't a great pilot by any means and I know of too many great artists who make me terribly jealous. R.G. Smith, Jim Dietz, John Young and many others do wonderful work. I just keep trying to do good things that strike my imagination. Working in oils I have several things going at once. While one is drying I work on several others and it is literally trains, planes, automobiles, and ships. Right now I have a string of profiles in work that show promise , JN4, F4B4, 2 P-26's, P6E, Boeing Model 40, B247, B314, B307, B367-80, and a P51 in natural metal. I wonder if I will be around to finish them all but I'm betting that I will. A little bit every day.
