Wanted- 288 GTO Owner's Manual Set

A friend has the owners manual official factory reprint and the sales & service book - may also have the pouch if its the same as the red 328 - pm to continue discussion

Al, Just a small comment: the pouch was not always the dark red leather item (which I prefer), but sometimes 288 GTOs were delivered with this Ferrari-generic item below.

That is what mine has. I look at my warranty book sometimes to see Jean Sage's home address. So cool

 

The main 3 items will be the service/warranty book, the owners manual and the dealer network book. There were a couple of paper items thrown in as well like the Goodyear warranty information pamphlet.

The big problem you have is the service book. They are issued to cars by serial # at the factory. I know of a very few cases where they have been replaced but that is a very rare occurrence.

I have a new 1st edition owners manual in my collection but am not looking to sell. I know of another but in my opinion it is overpriced. The cases are for sale routinely on Ebay but there are a lot of dreamers as far as price goes. I see dealer network books of the correct vintage sometimes too but you may need to buy an entire set for the wrong car to get one.

 

Brian, EBay can be useful but you have to be able to recognize whats repro and whats not.
There are a number of books that sometimes came with the cars (emphasis on sometimes) and they are rare today, but I see them come for sale from time-to-time. Some of this stuff was given to me by someone who was actually at the car's launch in 1984 where certain limited production items were handed out.

Very true and a good point. Many of the Ebay sellers try hard to avoid the subject of originals, copies or factory 2nd generation repoduction.

 

As I understand it then this is an official factory reprint - is that correct ?

Yes the reprint version had a white cover. The original had a dark red metallic cover as shown earlier with a print run of only 1,000 copies. Over time the glue used made the original manual rather fragile to use.

Also there were various language versions of the GTO press kit with GB in white on the cover for english plus a french edition to. Certain sets of black & white pictures in the press kit are of poor quality with some sort of damage during the develoment procees. It has been suggested those pictures were over developed.
