Thought I would take a shot at changing the oil in our Mondial t 3.4. When I removed the filter I spilled quite a bit of oil on the o2 connectors underneath the filter and on the top of the tranney. I cleaned the connectors with CRC and re-connected with stab 22a but got a 5-8 check engine light followed by the 1-4 after start. I pulled the codes and got Lambda faults for both banks (1114 sensor and 1211 regulation additive). I cleaned the connectors again with no help. Underneath the o2 connectors is this cannon plug (see photo), does anyone know what it serves as it was pretty oil soaked. I also can't find the engine grounding strap. Anyone know where that is? Aaaaand, I can't locate the coolant sensors?

When I turn the key, both check engine bank lights now come on but do not go out prior to start like they normally do (failed self test?). Upon seeing this I reset the battery and started it. All was well for 5 minutes and then both lights returned followed by cycling of the rpm from 500 to 1800. The car barely runs at this point.

Looks like it may be going to the shop on a flat bed.

    Thanks, Dave

Doesn't that plug mate to a similar connector dangling from the other side? I don't recall completely as I've been out of a Mondial t for several years, but it looks alot like the connector that joins in the collection of hoses and cables that cross under the airbox.

Correct, I unplugged it to clean. It appears to be on the ECU parts diagram but it is not labeled.

Strangest thing. When the check bank lights are on the car runs perfect. When they occasionally go out it won't idle and stalls. I can only assume that when the light comes on the ECU switches to a default setting. Since the only codes I have are o2 related I have ordered 2 Walker sensors at $60 each (thanks 348 parts sticky). I don't have a lot of confidence that this will fix it but at least I wont have to worry about a failed o2 for awhile.

By the way I found the coolant probes (thanks my348.com). Unfortunately, no quick way to clean those connectors underneath the intake plenum.

I'm still looking for the engine grounding strap if anyone knows where it is.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Any chance you got the 02 sensor connectors crossed?

On the Mondial 8 the grounding strap goes from the top of the oil pan to the frame at the passenger side rear. It's a flat braided strap. Good luck!

Wow.....and all you did was change the oil filter!

I think you just put me off changing the oil on my Mondial 3.4t!
