    Rebodying COTs as Pony cars does not a silhouette
    formula make.

    The manufactures are demanding return of the silhouette
    formula, if rumours are correct, and who can blame them?

    NASCAR should be looking at Australian V8 Supercars as
    a model formula which works for V8 sedans. However, if
    the COT goes away, there goes the multi billion dollar
    investment NASCAR spent on the technical facility
    they developed in Charlotte and the revenue streams
    provided by re-certification of crashed COT chassis.

    It will be interesting to see how they cock it up.

    anyway, it makes sense for the manufacturers, ergo Nascar won't allow it :)

    Yes! As nascar gets further and further away from actual vehicles you can buy, for me my interest has waned. I really like the Australian V8 series, British Touring Car Championship, etc. They are at least somewhat based on actual cars, and most importantly from a spectator perspective, LOOK like a heavily modified street car. Just look at the difference. NASCAR on the other hand looks like a tupperware box with Camry/Chevy/Ford stickers on it. It isn't fooling anybody. Can anyone tell if the two gray, unpainted NASCAR are Fords, Chevys, or whatever? Granted, a lot of people don't care, but a lot do.

    Now, if done right, the Camaro/Mustang/Challenger idea could work. But all they are proposing is to put the appropriate stickers on a tube frame, count me out.

    If the rumors are true, and no reason to suggest they're
    not, it's the manufactures (Ford, Chevy, Dodge) whom
    are looking for a return to a silhouette formula in NASCAR.

    NASCAR is all for taking money from these makes but
    their ROI is seriously lacking since the COT has no direct
    relations to their road going counter parts and, of course,
    the carbuerated 50's technology under the hood bears
    absolutely no technical to modern road cars.

    The COT has pushed the manufactures aside so they're
    all throwing money down a black hole which, as we know,
    they're not really in a position to do without return on
    investment or any technical advancement which passes
    on down to the average road going car.

    Here is where NASCAR has always missed the point and
    the manfacturers are finally starting to wake up and realize
    racing for the sake of racing without any hope of technical
    advancement which they may sell to their customers it's
    racing in vain.

    While I welcome the pony cars into the Nationwide series (and would like to see them with a 311 inch motor) I certianly don't want to see the same cars run in Sprint cup , I would go a step farther and have them run a different tire , maybe less wide (or they use current size while cup get inch or 2 wider) there needs to be a signifigant differance between the two series to get Nationwide back to being a series for up & comer's and not mostly dominated by the cup guy's.
