Looks very nice, although I take issue with the "100% original" claim, what with the prancing horse in the front grill, headlight covers (on a US-spec car), and Campy wheels (this car's too early and lacks flared fenders, which came with the wide wheel option), etc.

Agreed. I think the owner wanted to say 100% unrestored/unmolested, not necessarily 100% concours correct. He does mention that he also has the original wheels, and the prancing horse is easy enough to remove. The headlight covers would probably be considered a plus by most buyers, even though they are not strictly correct by concours standards.

Headlight covers were ordered new with the car. They are on the invoice and fitted by Chinetti prior to delivery.

    Cheers,

Really?! Even better then! I always thought it was impossible to order headlight covers on a US car, since they were not DOT legal.
With these cars you learn something new every day!

The car certainly wouldn't have had them fitted at the factory, but since covers were available in other markets I see no reason why Chinetti couldn't have installed them prior to delivery. Again, not factory original, but . . .

Also has the Ferrari logo on the trunk lid.

That, along with the headlight covers, is not so easy to fix without a repaint, thereby destroying the "originality" of the car.

It's certainly not a concours winner, but as a time capsule, would be great to give a good look.

Have those cam covers actually been polished or nickel-plated? They look awfully shiny for cast aluminum...Or, did the Dino V6 have sheet steel cam covers?

As you can see with the "Rimesso" the headlamp cover have been factory installed.
They called "protezioni in plastica" in Italian language....
    Ferrari Classiche confirmed.
One of the most original Dinos I have seen sofar.
    Regards Matthias

Now at $150k and reserve nor met

Has Campy wheels, but no flares. To my knowledge, the Campy's only came with the flares. Is that correct Matthias?

Hello Matthias - That proves that it was indeed possible to order headlight covers for a US Dino, and that they should be considered factory originals, at least on this car. Most interesting.

I also thought it looked like an unusually original car. That is why I wanted to bring it to the attention of everyone here.

    Regards,
    Lars

Has both sets of wheels, full build sheets from the factory. Was in storage for over 30 years. Apparently present owner was a friend of Enzo. Owner was the gentleman that commissioned the quarter scale full running working 312 Ferrari http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxYRa0pqxlw . Provinance is unquestionable. One of, if not the best unrestored Dinos in the world. Beautiful car.

Very nice car. Great interior combination, with those grey carpets. Obviously the Campy wheels are an add-on, perhaps specified for the car when purchased and fitted by Algar (I wonder how the Dino center badge is fitted, as the hole diameter of the Campys is larger).

Would be a great car to settle "should the breather tank be shiny or satin" and other arguments.

If well kept, a once in a lifetime opportunity. Extraordinary.

The pity is this poor car will never be driven. It's going to be a museum piece it's entire life.

    I find that rather sad.

The other pity is that someone had a museum piece and still couldn't resist adding a horsey in the grill. What? No shields?

Seriously, can one of you connoisseurs please answer my question about the "shiny" cam covers? That doesn't look "factory" to me....

They are factory stock. Someone simply polished the aluminum. I did the same when I had the valve covers off. Doesn't last long.

I was offered first right on this car. Have known about it for years. When it came down "pressing the trigger", my biggest issue was I couldn't do anything to it including driving it without damaging its value. It really belongs in a museum. It is really a special Dino. I just came back from a great drive in my Dino(03932) down PCH. There's no guilt in putting miles on it! Also I "love" working on it. I have a long "to do" list but am enjoying every moment of it! I can keep improving it while learning every aspect of it. No garage queen for me!

How many F40's or F50's have you seen with more than 8000 miles on the clock? Even more of a shame, IMHO. I've always thought that until a "collector" Ferrari hits about the $1M mark, DRIVE 'EM.

Nobody ever gave much thought to driving the pi** out of a GTO until they became worth big bucks....

Yes Shawn, that`s correct, Campagnolo 7 1/2 x 14 rims came only with fares.
    #04234 was delivered original with Cromodora 6 1/2 x 14.
The owner still has the original rims.
    Regards Matthias

The cam cover colour changed from M- to E-serie.
206 GT, L- and M-serie Dinos had original the magnesium cam covers, colour a kind of shiny olivegreen/brown.
E-serie Dinos have aluminium cam covers, slightly polished.

No, I think it need not be a museum piece. Of course, the owner will feel a responsibility to keep it original (and perhaps not drive it in the rain), but it can be enjoyed. I got my GT when it had only 10,000 miles (I thought that was low, but this red one has even lower miles), and do enjoy it quite a lot.

One interesting thing that I noticed: it appears to have the later "outrigger" bumpers with closed end caps on the rear bumpers, and more squared-off grille, but it has the old "Tower Bridge" wipers that, I believe, were only used on later Dinos with right-hand drive. Maybe it was a transitional thing--my red Dino (03964, also June '72 production) has the older bumpers, grille and wipers). Fred

Having picked up several new Dino's from the port and driven them back to NY (WWOC) I remember headlight covers in the trunk not installed but shipped with the cars.
