http://www.thef1times.com/news/display/01392 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMOZeeMZ6W4 "Fernando Alonso took the opportunity to test the heavily revised F10, featuring Red Bull style exhausts in Fairano last week. Whilst in-season testing is banned, teams are allocated a certain amount of 'promotional filming' time - which several teams have used to their advantage to test new parts. It's thought the new exhausts will boost the diffusers efficiency by almost 80%, doubling the downforce it creates. Whilst Ferrari will be the first team to copy the system, ready for next weekends race in Valencia, McLaren, Mercedes, Renault and Williams are all expected to debut it at Silverstone. A video of the test made its way onto the popular video sharing website YouTube, and clearly shows the exhausts have been moved from the engine cover to the lower-rear of the car. A statement on the teams website joked: "You have to make the most of any opportunity in this era of the testing ban!"
The "testing ban" is one of the stupidest "cost savings" (LOL) ideas proposed. It doesn't save any money. Everyone moves to computer simulations which are far more expensive and then find clever ways to get around the rest of the rules. It's just dumb to not let the best teams in the world test so they can produce the best products available for the biggest audiences in the world. I suppose the FIA would be happy if every car on the grid failed one day due to a lack of testing? Wow, wouldn't that be an exciting race.. NOT! Indy and Michelin all over again...
Hopefully this will be the revision that puts Ferrari back into the limelight again. Good to see Alonso get on the podium in Canada, and this could be the revision that sees him back on the top step...we can only hope. Very clever way of circumventing the testing ban Frank
Totally agree on all points. Testing ban is stupid... they should have more testing and use it to test out new tracks.... and sell tickets. if you cant have a GP... maybe you can have testing...
No **** just imagine the extra cash Bernie could pocket by selling tickets to testing events better yet the joy the fans would have.
This isn't a bad idea, it removes the transportation costs entirely. Indeed, MotoGP now does this for select weekends on the calender.
The idea of Thurs or Mon tests has been around for a while. So far the FIAhas shown no interest in relaxing the test schedule.
Will the revised exhaust setup bring Ferrari the high temperature failures Red Bull was having during the beginning of the season? It's always a fear but I think I have confidence in the F10b What do you guys think?
I won't speak for anyone else but I've found that most theories simple enough for me to understand tend to be wrong
