    Place bottle in freezer.

    Remove.

    Place a large hunting knife blade on the neck of the bottle about six inches from the top.

    Hold at a 45 degree angle top up.

    Quickly and forcefully bring blade towards the top of the bottle.

    The top of the bottle will come off cleanly.

    Works with Beer as well.

    Impresses the guys you find in a Biker Bar.

    Strippers like it too.

    Is that method just for bottles with pressure (Champagne, beer, etc) or is it ok for regular bottles of wine?

    You would never taste the difference, but like you I wouldn't do it with my Pétrus, Vega Sicilia Unico, Château Latour and my best bottles ... especially old wines.


    Yes, only bottles with pressure.


    You don't have to, only doing a continuous action. You must extend swing after impact point, like golf; the so called follow through!

    If you don't have a saber ( which is more spectacular though ) you can do it with the champagne flute itself!!!

    I tried the wine thing this week before calling housekeeping for a wine opener, but we only had a tennis shoe and it just kept bouncing back. I was afraid I was going to knock my hotel neighbors silly!

    Wow, that's pretty neat

    When I first started tasting wines, I didn't know how to exactly open them, so I stuck a wine opener into a twist top. It wasn't until shredded aluminum came off that I realized my mistake.

    I'm throwing the corkscrew away and using my massive collection of shoes to open my bottles now!

    I'd be afraid of drinking shards o' glass and ending up at Uro's office.

    The shoe bit seems safer, but all that banging kind of mixes those solids you've been trying to precipitate to the bottom of your ol' bottle.

    What are the chances of having a cheesecloth and a funnel if you don't even have a corkscrew?

    Still, I like the shoe deal for my next camping trip!
