I am new to 308's and k-Jet. The warm idle sits at 1000-1100 but it has this pulse cycle to it. It that normal? Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXrFpQEkK3s
Hard to tell, but it sounds pretty identical to every 308 or 328 I have ever been around, including my Mondial. At idle, these cars sound more like boats then cars
I would say something is not quite right. Most likely fuel system related (rather than iginition). I would first start looking for air leaks & split or leaking hoses. Pull the plugs & have a look at them & get the CO level/mixture setup checked. When you blip the throttle, how long does it take to return to idle?
I'll have to time the blip but i thinks its around 2-2.5 sec. It smells rich to me I would expect the idle to be pretty smooth on an injected car.
carbs! much easier and sound better but i went with the zincrox and 16 inch wheels. I tightened up a clamp on a vac line going to the manifold and that helped. i just pulled the air filter and it's toast...full of debris.
you can run a few minutes to see if the idle fixes, but do not go for a drive...monitor the engine personally.
Film it if you can & lets have a listen. How is the warm up cycle? What does it idle at on cold start? If it smells rich & it seems to be taking a long time to come off a throttle blip then you may need to clean (or better yet replace) your injectors. If one or more are not closing properly then it would show some of these kind of symptoms I have just changed them on my 328 & the difference is noticeable. The idle is even down at 850 (measured with a digital gauge, not the rev counter which reads 1-200 high). It also returns to idle revs much faster after a throttle blip. Your car doesn't sound bad & its not a million miles away - but I also don't think its quite right.
Personally I think 2K is kind of high (mine is around 1400-1500) but they are all different. US cars with emissions gear do seem to all idle up towards 2K from have I have read though. The thing abou the whole KJet system is its quite sensitive to a couple of things.. Firstly if you have an air leak that can leads you astray when you set the mixture at idle (which then screws the mixture up across the system). An air leak can be a split hose (I had one in the long vacuum line that goes back above the wheel arch to the trunk) or could be a bad injector seal. Secondly the injectors seem to be a "wear" item. As I said I have just replaced mine at 37K when honestly I didn't really think there was anything really wrong. I am very happy that I did it. Its also worth taking the throttle body off and giving it a good clean with carb cleaner if it hasn't been done in a while.
doesn't sound any different...still oscillates. slowly spray some carb cleaner in the intake few times while running. if it helps, then you may have to clean some intake components.
(Assuming it is a US version) Two easy things to do at warm idle: 1. "Feel" the FV to confirm that it is vibrating -- no vibration = problem, and 2. Measure the voltage on the single output wire (while it is still plugged in) from the O2 sensor relative to ground at warm idle -- if it is not wandering slowly between ~0.1V and ~0.9V, you really aren't running/idling correctly.
Steve, what is the FV? I'lll also try some of your suggestions from this thread http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=171314&highlight=idle
FV = frequency valve = aka metering valve = aka lambda valve Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not sure which is more accessible (at the Jetronic ECU or here), but there is a single spade connector shown on the US 308QV schematic between the O2 sensor and the ECU (just follow the wires from the O2 sensor: 2 will end in a 2-pin plastic connector --- this is +12V power and ground for the internal electric heater; the single wire ends in a spade connector and is the actual sensor output wire).
I just found some older posts with the same issues that you consulted on Steve so I am reading through it all and I'll start going through it one step at a time tomorrow starting with the FV, voltage numbers, relays, atl output and so on until i can find the issue. It's running rich...the fumes burned my eyes when i was filming that 2nd video. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=139696307#post139696307 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=254951&highlight=FV+vibrating&page=2
Definitely not a good sign. Have to say that, on the K-Jet with Lambda and KE-Jet with Lambda models, it often happens that something goes wrong and, then, rather than properly diagnosing the problem and fixing it, people start turning the "tweaks" -- resulting in 2 problems! Please let us know what you find.
meaning they start messing with the fuel metering? It passed ots 2010 texas inspection so lets hope it pases here in MA. I'll be going through the car today and following your process steve. I'll get it worked out...air and fuel....start at 1 point and work backwards. so FV, relay and O2 to be checked.
