I needed a front sidelight lens for my Mondial t, so I called the major UK supplier (who lists the lens at £62) to find out that "yes we can supply but the lens is NLA and you have to buy the "whole thing" for £155.
Well I thought , the lenses are a bit tarnished anyway, so I ordered it.

What arrived yesterday was just the lens....at £155 plus VAT and postage....£197 (about $300) Did not even include the screws.

I called about this but that appeared to be the price. If I wanted the screws I had to buy the "whole lamp assembly" at over £600 ($900)

I was also told that it was "limited stock" meaning when they are gone there are no more from Ferrari.

Care has to be taken when ordering "classic" parts from Ferrari to identify what you are actually going to receive! Don't assume that the part will come with mountings/screws etc, and be prepared for the fact that these items may be NLA.

Wow; that was pretty expensive! Also, an important lesson is to keep all old parts until the new arrive.

Probably a dumb questions, but what does "NLA" stand for?

Sorry....these abbreviations are often country specific! I remember years ago spending ages trying to work out what the American "NOS" stood for.
It was the days before internet forums and there was nobody I could ask.
I decided it meant "Not Often Supplied" which was totally incorrect....I believe it stands for New Old Stock.

    Hi Martin,

I see you are now finding out some of the problems of owning a Ferrari, lack of parts for the older tipos (80`s - 90`s) is only going to get worse!!

You are correct "NOS" = New Old Stock but think you are also correct with Not Often Supplied these days. :) :)

    Regards,
    Phil.

Maranello UK have three warehouse floors full of boxes of parts for "classic" Ferraris.
However a lot of it is not catalogued, which means they know that they have the parts you want, but can't even begin to guess where they might be.

When I enquired about a part for my Mondial "the computer says we have two of those there's no location" so " we may never find them"

The guys there are really helpful, but if they have boxes of parts piled from floor to ceiling "We bought all the classic Ferrari spares from Ferrari Italy" then I guess that some will become lost in the system.

Maranello's have moved their parts warehouse 4 times to my knowledge. The last time, they used a company who "specialise" in factory moves but no one told the eastern european staff! So much stuff was misplaced in the move. A subsequent stock take uncovered a lot of the missing parts so that was a bonus but a lot of it may never be discovered other than by accident. Still, it's an Alladins cave for the f-car owner and it's good fun to walk those floors and try and guess what model the classic parts are for. Lots of 250 series parts including many body panels.

    Yes they are!

For example, here in the States we don't use NLA --- we use SOL --- which stands for SH** OUT OF LUCK

In Australia, I think they use KNMSB --- which stands for KRIKEY, NO MORE SHRIMP ON THE BARBEY

    lol

Anybody remember the threads years back from Ferrari UK?
The "Friday Picture" threads with the rows and rows of boxes and engine parts in the Ferrari UK warehouse?

I wish the guys would start those again.
