his slapper wife was butt ugly, she needed to go to a public latrine to get a rat to knaw that thing off her face
Why isn't Holt and McMahon on the list? - both were embarrassing at best, and useless otherwise. I've met professionally or socially 5 PMs - Whitlam, Fraser, Hawke, Keating & Howard. Whitlam was a friend of my Father - he sincerely proffered his condolences to my mother at my Dads funeral. Also, he got me out of a holiday in Viet Nam, via Puckapunyal, when he was elected.. I'd venture to suggest that he would have made a superb Liberal PM! I still think that he is probably the greatest intellect that we have ever had as PM - however much he was mislead. I met Fraser through Italian cars - he is a Lancia nut - we swapped sits in each others cars at a national rally and shared a table at dinner. IMO he is a shy but very likeable genuine person with a great social concience and would have made a great (rightish!) Labour PM. Hawke bought me a beer! Howard is a decent bloke who I met when our kids were on opposite sides of an interschool debate contest. I wont elaborate on PK - save that IMO he is a loathsome creature with zero sense of public responsibility...
I was living in Malaysia in 1993 when Keating called Mahathir recalcitrant. Thank God for my Kiwi passport. He still is a very bitter man IMO.
He was probably right - but zero/10 for diplomacy - typical from him. Straight shooting is one thing, stupidity is quite another. I did a couple of trips to Indonesia shortly after that - wish I'd had a Kiwi passport!!!
You missed the obvious - Little Johnny! For the following reasons: 1. Played to the worst xenophobic / me, me, me instincts of the chattering classes 2. Deluded the masses into thinking 'you've never had it so good' which laid the foundations for the unsustainable credit mess that we STILL have to face 3. Increased middle class welfare to the point where the median pays zero nett tax at the expense of those who really need assistance (physically and mentally disabled) 4. Committed Aus to the biggest military / diplomatic bungle since Vietnam 5. Made mileage out of eliminating the deficit, but did so by 'selling the farm' and letting critical infrastructure crumble around us The only worthwhile policy he ever put forward was the gun legislation, which I do commend him for.
She left out Work Choices ! I was going to be one of Johnny's victims. My employer was paying $15.62 an hour while I manufactured precision components for the mining industry. The boss openly praised JH for his move and told us quite clearly to get our finances in order because we were not going to see any pay rises for 10 years. I am not exagerating ! The good news was we probably wouldnt have any pay cuts apart from no more OT rates ...... just straight base rate. Dont think this wont affect guys on this site who own a business ...... dont think "you should have worked harder and you wouldnt be in that situation" ......... why ? My employer asked me if I could run a water cutting machine ...... they were thinking of buying one ......... we were operating out of Brendale ............ Imagine our direct competitors position had they bought the thing and run it at $15 / hour all day , all night , 7 days a week. Work Choices can only produce a state of decay where not only the employees fight for every cent , but every business fights to survive ............. even the well established ones. ............... with the impending work choices I quit my job like many others in that industry. What JH ultimately did was trigger a tradesman shortage. I will never go back to it because leopards (my former boss) never change their spots.
No I wasn't joking and the only reason I didn't mention Workchoices was because he failed to get it past the electorate.
