For me it was the Tyrell with Jackie Stewart at the wheel. Road and Track did a in depth look at the car and the team and that was it.
For me it is a toss up between three: 1) Some guy named Bandini driving a red car, can't remember the factory. 2) Jim Hall's Chaparrals 3) Smokey Yunick's #22 Pontiac
Ferrari since I saw the movie "Grand Prix" in the movie theater as a kid. Image Unavailable, Please Login
But when I was young the very first open-wheel racers that made me take notice were the Tyrell 6-wheelers (P34), and the early JPS Lotuseses. That black and gold livery was just the business. In my young mind's eye all race cars were "the same" except for these two and they were immediately identifiable to me. As a tangent, do you guys consider yourselves fans of/rooting for a team first or a driver first? e.g. I support Alonso now because he drives for the Scuderia. You know he took over from the Finnish guy with the monotonous voice, who in turn took over from an old German pensioner, Michael something-or-other...
Lotus in the old JPS days when I was a kid, later McLaren with Senna, but first and always Ferrari......
First favorite team? Rick Mears/Penske circa 1979. At the same time I got hooked on Ferrari road cars but I knew nothing of their race team. My interest peaked when my older brother said... ..."you know the people who make the 308? They also race, and they'll be on Wide World or Sports this weekend". I've been tuning in to see the red cars ever since.
I always thought Derek Warwick was quite exceptional . When he drove the Lotus- Lambo, they became my favourite team. Alesi brought me over to Ferrari.... .
My first ever hero racer was Fittipaldi clinching the title in the beautiful JPS Lotus. My first favorite team was Williams when my compatriot Regazzoni scored their first victory at Silverstone 79. From there I quickly became a big Alan Jones fan and was really happy to see him clinch the title with Williams the following year. The switch to Ferrari came about ten years later as I got the Ferrari road car bug, which quickly infected my F1 thinking. So in essence I became a Ferrari F1 fan, when they were really down and out with such greats as Larini
Exactly the opposite. The WDC is what it is all about. Ferrari is my fav team, but the driver comes always first. So now that my fav driver sits in my fav car, I'm really happy.
I separate the two. Double the pleasure. I typically like to root for underdogs as far as teams and up-and-comers as drivers. Thus Williams for current team and Rosberg as for driver. (No joy in Mudville today ) The Team (car) is more important as to who wins the WDC than the driver himself but gets less credit. Thats just the way it is.

My first Favorite F-1 team was Matra with Jackie Stewart... then moved to Ferrari in 70... been there ever since.
