Guys, I am thinking of removing the wing on my Diablo. I just think that the wing breaks up the lines a bit on the car and think that it could look lower and wider (in addition to more asthetically pleasing) without it. The wing is not as wide as the car itself in addition to it being taller. I am thinking that, visually, removing parts that are "thinner" and taller should make the car appear lower and wider. I am thinking that the removal of the wing make the car look more "stealth". If I do it, I am going to get it done before Concorso. Finally, out of all the Diablos (like 25 or so) last year at La Dolce Vita, the one WITHOUT a wing won the Lamborghini class. Coincidence?? Is this something I shouldn't bother doing (i.e. end result doesn't justify the cost)? Are they better WITH the wing? What do you all think? I am a big wing fan!.. But I can also see why some people would prefer the lines without the wing. There is a spare rear deck on ebay right now, buy that, paint it black and drive out wing or no wing depending on your mood that particular day, (its only to bolts to take on/off)
After all these years of having no interesat in Diablos, lately they are in my head. Keep the wing and the last photo is perfect.
IMO, the early cars, 91,92,93 the wings do not look correct. In 94 the SE wings were lower and longer and fit the car better. The same with the 96-99 Roadster wing, it is taller than a coupe wing. I have seen roadster wings on coupes and it does not look good. Do this prior to spending a ton of money at Steve's place. 1) Have the wing removed and in its place put the small rubber grouments in the deck lid holes (very small) for now, see if you like, no need to spend all the money to fill the holes and repaint. 2) Paint your rear taillight bezzels body color black and change out your one orange tailight to red as well (like pic attached) makes a whole new car and updated look. **Steve knows this as I do it to all my cars..tell him you want the ROY look, I also have extra tail light lenses if he is out of them currently** 3) You could always install a SE wing as well (1994), I do have one in stock, non painted..will need to be body color painted. You may also want to change out your front turn marker lights to clear lense as well, again a more modern updated look..Steve should have some as I also have some in stock as well. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I will be honest, what is making me think about it is when I left Pocono. A Diablo was approching form the other way. The difference between the low, realtivly narrow nose and the hulking air inlets and wide rear...... made me say to myself "holy ****, why haven't I seen it it like this before?" Been thinking about it since.
Peter, In addition to the older Lambos I've had, I've also had a couple of Diablos -- a 94 VT and a 98 SV. Really great cars. I especially like the look of the SV with the scoops coming over the top. Build quality, imo, is much better than earlier Lambos (although not as good as G's and M's). Perhaps not as crazy looking as the Countach but fantastic beasts nonetheless. Kirk
Ha! First of all, I just got done spending a ton of money at Steve's place (on something unrelated). ;-) Maybe not a ton for others, but for me. Guy is a magician with Diablos. You and Steve are pretty much on the same page. He has been riding me about changing my side marker lights to clear since Day 1. I kind of like the orange side markers though (call me crazy!). He has probably suggested that 10 times though in the last year. Seriously. I like the red tailight bezels too. On my car, I have the black and red thing going. All black car, black wheels, black interior with red piping all over including the seats. Red dash, red cluster panel and red center console. So the red tailights look appropriate on the car. If they didn't, I would paint them bodycolor. I thought about the smaller wing (Steve has suggested it too) but think it is either going to be the one I have or NO wing. I do think the SE wing would look better though. The fact that it is long enough to cover the entire width of the car makes it look better than the one I have IMO.
I know what you mean. The car looks SO different from the front than any other angle. Doesn't even look like the same car.
Maybe it was an SV since it is different back there. Roy, yes I did look at what you got via ebay. However, I am amazed at how cheap a Murcielago is. BUT no Diablo or Murci now. Real estate dealings going on. Then it is 2 vintage models first.
For the love christ Kirk! Every time I hear from you, I find out you've had more cars than previously discussed! hahahaha.
Big Frankie! Where have you been hiding? You like my car so much, you should come out and see it some time! ;-)
Peter, i agree with you and this feature is even more evident on not winged cars i loved the diablo when it came out in 1990 (i was just a kid then), but i quickly forgot about it in favour of my very first love (the countach ) few years ago i saw one on the road and the impact this thing has in real life, on the road with the V12 roaring behind is ...like taking your breath away! i had seen many at meets or in the shop but looking at one on the road coming in your direction....is all an other thing :-o i had to have one, i bet you will get one sooner or later last of the old school lambo after miura and countach the lambo to own islero, epada, jalpa, urraco ....they are all nice and classic but not one of those look as good as a diablo (imo)
