Mmm, Donuts! Image Unavailable, Please Login What are your favorite donut places & donut type? Mine, has to be Round Rock Donuts, I live about 5 minutes away from this place in Austin. They have been featured on Man vs. Food and on the Food Network. They have the Texas size donut too. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Theres this local place called Good Morning Donuts. Some of the best donuts ever. Better than Krispy and Dunkin. To show how great they are, heres a story. A Dunkin came to a neighboring town, stayed for some time, then went out of business. I went there once, the local places beat them hands down. Donuts werent even fresh at all.
Local Place - Kempf's Donut Bank. It put all but one Krispy Kreme out of business and all the Dunkin' Donuts in the area. Amazing donuts and really good coffee too. Nothing beats a large cup of coffee and 2 glazed donuts for under $3.
I voted for DD because I don't like Krispy Kreme, there are no Tim Horton's here, and I don't know of a good local place. I guess I'm donut deprived
Krispy Kreme has to be the most overrated donut's ever. Shipley's FTMFW! I've wanted to try Round Rock for a long time.
Friends Do Not Let Friends Eat Krispy Kreeme Donuts. The KKs are the only donuts that I cannot eat. I work in the utility industry same as Homer in the opening post on this thread and we know donuts! Good donuts come from local places with personality like: Voodoo Doughnut near my office: http://www.voodoodoughnut.com/ If you can't get the best donuts, it is not worth while to pay any premium for ersatz donuts. My wife understands this and will get me the discount box of day old donuts from the grocery store when there is some particularly dirty job she wants completed. -sc
Britts,CarolinaBeach. This is the line at 8am...one kind only, glazed. The thing itself is so light like it's almost not there but what you taste is pure flavor.Wonderful. cheers, RE Image Unavailable, Please Login
Krispy creams are certainly the most overratted I agree! If you like a GREAT Crueller, go to Speedway gas stations (not sure if they're all over the country or not) I think Super America carries them too since they're their sister company. The best there are bar-none.
A.Gupta, you claim to be from Texas and you left Shipley Do-Nuts off the list? WTF? You should know they were founded here in Houston in 1936 and have over 190 stores in the Southern states and with 86 of those in the Houston area.
Yeah yeah, I'm not a fan of Shipley's WIITCH I lived in Houston and they were on every corner, I was going to list it though, I just didn't like them
Dunno, when I had them last, I was probably 11-ish, and the Shipley's near my house in Houston was inside a gas station. I tried another place, and they donuts were doughy, like not even cooked. I guess that ruined it for me, I'll give it another go when I'm back in Texas, they opened up one near my house in Austin.
Pronounced - mala-sadas! I'm surprised the Hawaiian guys haven't chimed in. At any rate, I love doughnuts but these malasadas are unreal! If you guys haven't had them..... get one. There are also "so-pa-pias" a southwestern treat usually served with chocolate or honey.
Yea, sopapillas are more commonly known for cinnamon and sugar and honey than with chocolate. Chocolate sounds like a different regional flair.
We had a place in Point Pleasant, NJ called "Hoffman's Donuts" - they were around for like 50 years when the son decided to close shop. They cooled donuts on wooden pegs, and had lines around the block. Absolute legend. My wife and I would go down on Saturday mornings, get a half dozen (raised and cake) and then sit at the inlet watching boats go out to (and come back from) the Atlantic Ocean. There's another place not terribly far called Ob-Co's. I never liked them as much, but also a local legend. I love Krispy Kreme and both these places put KK to shame.
My favorite donut place is Dunkin Donuts and my favorite type is strawberry frosted. Our local Dunkin Donuts even recently added a drive thru. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I try to eat healthy but when the urge comes, Dunkin! You can make small talk with the local cops too, lol, I kid.
