Reckless Ferrari F430 Driver, info requested ...

Hey Guys,

My name is Ben. This is my first post here, I joined because I am looking for some information in identifying a very reckless driver who nearly caused several accidents with my today. I drive a 2008 White Subaru STi.

Today I was cruising down Hwy 9 towards Saratoga with a friend. We saw a group of exotics going the other way. There was a red Ferrari F430, a baby blue Lotus, blue metallic M3 E92, a black SL65 AMG, a dark gray GT-R, and two Lamborghini Superleggeras (black and orange). We turned around(37.251871,-122.055789) and followed up to the intersection at Hwy 9 and Hwy 35 (37.258518,-122.121897). We followed down to the Vista Point, just south of Alpine Rd/Page Mill Rd (37.324458,-122.204147). I took this picture:



We took some quick pictures then headed back down the road north. I got a phone call and I pulled over to answer it, when I went again, the Ferrari caught up to me very quick and was tailing me to a point where I was not very comfortable, there was no way I could pull over in the place we were, so I went faster and faster until we got out to a straight part. I ended up doing about 90mph. At this point, the Ferrari gunned it and passed me, even though the road was double yellow line, he was easily going 120mph past me, likely faster.

He then cut back in front of me and passed a pickup truck on a blind corner. There was a Mazda 3 in front of the pickup who was easily doing 60mph (50mph speed limit). The Ferrari tried to pass him on another blind corner. He cut out into the other lane, even though there was another car coming the other way. He cut back into the correct lane and sent the BMW 3 series in the other lane partially off the road, then back towards my car, nearly hitting me.

At this point, the pickup truck noticed what was going on and was trying to get the car to pull over. He was blocking him from attempting to pass again and finally forced him over t o a turnout. They then proceed to yell at each other. The car then drove off and so did the pickup. At Alices Diner (37.386563,-122.265313), the group pulled over. I pulled over to try to talk to the driver, but when I stopped, he just took off followed by the rest of the group.

I stopped and reported the incidents to the police. I find it unacceptable for anyone(in any car) to behave so recklessly and without regard for anyone's safety. I got the plates of the Ferrari, and both of the Lamborghinis. [*** plates deleted ***]. I did not get the plates on the other cars, however they were all California.

I would like to find anyone who knows who this guy is, or perhaps he can chime in and explain why he nearly caused crashes with 4+ cars...

I guess you should leave it at that.

Putting matters in your own hands probably isn't the best way to deal with it. Especially with posting their license plate information.

Is this something you want to put in a public forum? I'm glad nothing bad happened. The potential for disaster was great. Please be careful out there.

 

Didn't really have any choice, he was RIGHT on me, so close that I could barely see his front end/hood, there was nowhere to pull over, and he wasn't passing, so the only thing I could do is go faster to get him off me.

 

That's about the time I go hard on the brakes because of the obstacle I see in the road ahead...

So you are saying I should intentionally cause a crash with a $200,000+ car? That seems like a bad idea.

 

Well, I wouldn't SLAM on the brakes and have him rear-end you.

I wouldn't have gone faster. I would have let off the gas and gradually slowed down. that would have pissed him off and he probably would've gotten the hint to slow down.

 

You got a plate number and reported them. I'd follow through with that and let this thread and your other efforts, whatever they may be, die.

I don't know if the speed limit on skyline is 35 or 40 or 50...but you are doing 90+ mph....so you are easily doing almost 2x the speed limit, that is considered reckless driving ....

no such thing as reckless and more reckless...you were probably all driving like a bunch of jacka$$es....take it to the track

 

Notwithstanding all of the other things, but this was not a smart thing to do either.

Why would you speed up to 90mph in your city Subaru when you are followed by a near race car making him go even faster to pass you?

I have been up and down that road more often than I can count and surely there are plenty of spots where the shoulder is wide enough for you to slightly pull over if you felt that the cars behind you were much faster.
No reason for you to go like a bat out of hell. Speeding up because someone behind you is speeding is pretty lame.

Yes, perhaps it is a bad idea, though I don't believe the value of the car following you should have ANY impact (no pun intended) on your decision. That said, I HAVE "brake checked" vehicles that were following too closely on a few occasions - twice they were marked law enforcement vehicles.

Oh Pleeeaassse with that... I ride a motorcycle too and if someone is on my tail, I just slow down, very slowly I might add, and let them pass me. He demonstrated his ability to pass so very, very, slow reduction of speed was a prudent choice. Hazards on...On his way and no heart burn for you. So what if he rear ended you?...his air bags, not yours. (Unlikley.)

Oh yea, you had choices...besides...say you find him...then what. A nice Hawaiian punch in the nose?

You have made your point that you are unhappy with his driving choices, reported him to the police and 'outed' him in this forum.

It is unlikley you are going to get anything else.

At this moment, someone could be posting on a Subaru Forum about the crazy guy who was doing 90 in his white STi on Hwy 9 near Saratoga, racing with a Ferrari and a couple of Lambos....

If someone had called the Patrol and reported this, you wouldn't have received any sympathy when they pulled ALL of you over.

Sorry that a Ferrari driver made such a bad impression on you, not all of us drive like that.

As far as I can tell, the only difference between the OP and the Ferrari driver was that the OP had a much slower car. You were both driving like jackasses (most of us do at least once in a while), and even after he waited for a straight stretch and passed you like you were standing still, you managed to stay up with him to report what happened down the road. The whole thing about driving faster to avoid someone following to close is utterly unbelievable.
I'm not excusing the Ferrari driver's behavior, but I can also tell you that I am sick and tired of pretender boy racers harassing me when I am driving an obviously faster car at normal safe speeds. 98% of the time I just ignore them, but every once in a while I just get totally fed up and drive away, probably sending them home crying.
Rule no 1: Don't race on the street. Rule no 2: If you ignore rule number 1 and lose, don't try to act like the other guy was worse than you- he was only faster.

...on another note, I would be careful about calling the cops and telling them you were doing 90 in a 50.
