Cars & Croissants 8:30 am this Saturday at:

    Woodland Bakery
    650 Shunpike Road
    Chatham, NJ

We typically have anywhere from 30 to 100 cars -- vintage to new, Italian, German, British, all of the above. There are pictures in other parts of this section of Fchat. Great group of car guys.

From NYC, on Saturday morning, probably would take you an hour or so to get to Chatham.

Not easy by public transport. Also, see the C&C thread in this section. Given the weather forecast, we have changed the date to Sunday.

I walked a few blocks from Times Square to visit the Ferrari Store in late April and they were still working on the interior. The front door was open and I tried to catch the eye of anyone inside to inquire when they would be opening but I wasn't exactly knocked over in the rush to help me. I stood there for 10 minutes with no-one coming to the door to talk to me. It was drizzling rain and just after the Times Square terrorist scare lockdown. I hope they are not that aloof when they open up. I visited the Ferrari Stores in Las Vegas, San Francisco and Honolulu Hawaii whilst on my trip and each of the staff were friendly and helpful. Even though the NYC Ferrari Store experience left a bad taste, I still love NYC and its people.

Did you get to stop into the Australian bar on West 38th St between 5th and 6th? It probably would have been a good cure for any homesickness that you might have had!

Nah - I missed that one. NYC was everything I thought it would be - plus more. I can't wait to go back as I didn't do half the things I wanted to. Go to Yankee Stadium to see the Yankees play Baltimore Orioles. Awesome place Yankee Stadium. Nothing in the land down under like it. I looked for the old Dolphin Hotel which has the haunted room but I still haven't found it. And I only got to walk one third of Central Park - magic place. And ... I was only a block away from the NYC unsuccessful terrorist bomb attack in Times Square when it took place. Scary stuff.

My only advice is not to get your hopes up too high. I visited earlier this year, after decades of stories people would tell me about this magical city. It has it's merits, but as I grew up in Los Angeles I guess I was jaded; was not blown away by anything in Manhattan. Especially car-related. I think I spotted ONE Lambo the entire two weeks...

That said, roam the streets. I found the best entertainment was getting down & dirty. Eat street food. Rap with the homeless. The fancy restaurants & hotels are nothing you can't see in Vegas or LA. Save your car watching for LA.

I suspect most people come to NYC to do other stuff besides eating crappy street-vendor food, conversing with the homeless, and checking out fancy hotels and cars. That sounds like an LA thing.

well the ferrari store was a bit of a disappointment. there was a california, 458 and 599 GTO on display, but the first thing the security guard said to me when i walked in was "no photo. looking ok, no photo." i did snap a couple standing directly outside the store though. shrug.

They were the same paranoid 'no photos' at the Las Vegas Ferrari Store and the San Francisco Ferrari Store when I visited them recently. The guys at the Honolulu Hawaii Ferrari Store weren't as fussy and let you take pics. Enough said about the NYC store. Maybe they thought you were a spy from Lamborghini.

Who the heck cares if you take photos. That's just plain dumb. And, btw, there is absolutely no comparison between LA and NYC. NY has history and culture, which LA doesn't even come close to. LA is show and NYC is substance.

    (fixed)

Most people come to NYC to do other things, but they leave disappointed & raped financially. What a **** town. No wonder y'all have to hype it up... otherwise there would be no tourism. LA has better pizza, better entertainment, better... everything. Sucks to be you.

If the most fun you had in NYC was eating street food and "rapping with the homeless", I think that LA is the perfect place for you.

By the way...where were you rapping with the homeless anyway? You're lucky that you didn't get beat-up and robbed.
