    Is there any reason not to use it all the time if you have a failed seat pot? This is assuming I'm not too stupid to put the seats up far enough and lower the windows.

    I just don't have the energy to pull the seats and rebuild the pots, or to take in in and pay another bill and not have the car any more this summer.

    The repair could be a nice winter project.

    Or I could just leave the top down except in rare occasions when I need to park in a public place or I'm out and it might rain! (Of course, the manual says don't leave it down for long periods).

    Use the emergency control. It's harmless.

    Somebody here actually wired the emergency switch to the regular switch.

    the 355 I rented in Vegas last summer was wired this way. However, it was done extremely roughly from what I could see.

    Yep, emergency switch just bypasses the input from the sensors, its all down to you to check for obstructions.
