I wish that I could be there. I've never done it but I hope that I can before I have to attend that big fly-in in the sky. Maybe I can send something by proxy. Switches
C'mon. We rented a house 5 miles from the field. You can crash with us. Bring your own booze, though.
Been there, done that. In the rain. You guys go ahead. We can compare notes over one of those $6 Oshkosh soft drinks.
Almost identical to what I was going to say. I have listed the airplanes under which I have spent some wonderful nights and some, just as you mentioned, in the rain. The last time was under the wing of a Travel Air. Woke up to the " Foggy Dew" but we flew a Dawn Patrol and got drenched from the water cascading back off the wings as we took off. Flew around in a temperature inversion, got warmed up as the sun came up, and gazed at the beautiful morning colors. Ah, what the ground pounders miss !
I don't have proper confirmation yet but it's looking REALLY good for me going down there! Trying not to get too excited just yet but it's hard!
You won't even notice the 'roughing it'. I've camped at both Oshkosh and Sun 'n Fun and had a great time at both. It's a lot like summer camp from when you were a kid -- lots of excitement, always people around (and talking flying). The 'rough conditions' are quickly forgotten amid the great people, fascinating airplanes, and crush of things to do.
I'm going for the first time. Friday, July 30th fly into Milwaukee (DFW FC'er going with me dad lives there free house/car) and then leaving from Milwaukee on Monday, August 2nd. We're centering on the weekend to get more of the warbird stuff. Russ, looks like I'll miss you unfortunately. Anyone else there for the last weekend let me know as I would like to host a FerrariChat.com/AviatorChat.com meal or happy hour. List for FerrariChat.com/AviatorChat.com Meet Up (Friday night, Saturday, or Sunday) Rob Lay - Southlake, TX (328 GTS, 355 C / Columbia 400) Greg Scott - Dallas, TX (Testarossa)
I spent three days there back in 1983 and had a ball. Stayed in a dorm at the UW campus, from where shuttle buses took us to Whitman Field. Want to do it again, but it won't happen this year......
You guys are making me jealous. I grew up outside Milwaukee and used to go to Oshkosh every year. Learned to fly at an FBO owned by a guy that had a Baron, an SNJ and a Stearman. He used to host the SNJ group at his FBO in Hartford, Wisconsin as they made their way into OSH.
The Sopwith will be the display aircraft at the Rotec booth. I will be there Saturday through Wednesday it looks currently.
OK, who is there on the last Saturday? BTW, can you get beers anywhere on field? BYOB? What's the deal with that.
I will be there waving the Ferrarichat Flag from Saturday until Thursday. If anyone is there, leave me a note on this thread or drop by and leave word at the Rotec/Airdrome Aeroplanes exhibit
We are here with two of our new Flight Simulators. Come visit us at the ICON Aircraft booth. Be sure to identify yourself to the simulator operators as FerrariChat members. Hope to meet some of you guys there!
