Options: First we must decide how many days this shindig will be, one or two? Obviously a one day event will be simpler but with less events. Option #1 / One day: Morning. Track day / Gymkhana style cone course at the El Toro / AMCI facility in Irvine. AMCI holds the lease on this venu and stages 'Ride & Drives' for all the major auto manufactures. They will probably set up the course with cones, timing devices, refreshments, tent for shade, lunch, etc. TBD of course. Possibly open the event to all Ferrari's to make it more affordable for all. Afternoon: Possibly rent a theatre at 'Irvine Spectrum' for a private screening of 'Ferrari' Victory by Design' and Le Mans, etc? Early Evening: Dinner and cocktail cruise on Newport Harbor on a BIG yacht. Drawings, goodie bags and sponsor handouts. Secure parking must be researched, guard? or... Just cocktails on the yacht and dinner festivities at a local Newport nearby restaurant or hotel which can accomodate...parking being a consideration again. Possiblywe can secure overnight accomodations at a local hotel at a discounted group rate. Any suggestions ? Option #2 / 1 day Morning: Meet at Irvine Spectrum, etc. and cruise down Laguna Canyon Road to Pacific Coast Highway.Drive south on PCH (caravan) possibly with CHP escort? to Encinitas, Del Mar or La Jolla for lunch.Restaurant and parking suggestions? Afternoon: After lunch drive back to Irvine Spectrum via 405 for a private screening of the before mentioned films.Reserve valet and or covered parking at the Spectrum for secure parking. Early evening: Drive over to Newport for cocktails / dinner cruise on Newport Harbor on yacht. Drawings, goodie bags, distributed at dinner cruise venue. Secure parking to be researched, TBD. Hotel or drive home. Two day option: Same as one of the 1 day options but add a possible car show with vintage Ferrar's if possible. Also a longer day trip drive? My opinion is that one of the one day options will suffice and less hassles with coordination, hotels, etc. or.......The entire event could be staged at the 'Ritz Carlton'in Dana Point and stage and hold ALL events there at the hotel.? Special Notes: 1. Goodie bag contents needed from individual donors or sponsors. 2. Drawings held at dinner for items donated by sponsors,Ptints, Photos, Oil changes or services, models, misc. Ferrari items, etc. No goodie bags to non participants to dinner. 3. Group photo by an FChat Photographer, Frank, Jay Testshoot? 4. Lots of details to work out and costs dependent on what we do. 5. Volunteers needed to help coordinate specific items and venues. So, what do you think...what options, etc. Hey, don't forget for all our out of town pals....John Wayne Airport (Orange County Airport) is only a couple miles from all the action.
It's getting too complicated and I didn't even read the entire thread. Keeping it simple will make it, well, simple I think simple is good
Well, here's a simple option........just have a dinner cruise in Newport. No goodie bags, no films, no drives, no tracking, no car show, etc. no nothing except for maybe a drawing for some donated stuff at dinner. It doesn't get any simpler than that. Let's hear from everyone what they want to do. Remember we can make this a small 348/355 gathering or open it up to everyone?
Doesn't matter either way for me. I would just like to get out and meet some people and see some great cars.... I've never been to Cars and Coffee, but I think it would be cool if we stormed in with as many 348/355's as possible. Again, whatever everyone else wants to do.........Lou
Now yer talking Goodie bags-- eh we dont need em, we're all big boys Films-- I've seen enough of films Tracking-- Not my thing (but that's just me) Car show-- That will be in the parking lot
All of the proposed dates currently work for me. I like a one day event of 348/355 owners/drivers & previous owners, opening to everyone kind of defeats the purpose of calling it a 348/355 So.Cal Get Together. Jeff
I just look at as if I put 4k miles on my 355 and bring it to the 30k mark, I will be losing at least $12,000!!! But I don't care! I love driving my car. Even though it has been in the shop since April in Seattle...don't even get me started....check the following thread if you want to know... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=280257 PS...I have faith in Pope Carlo!!!
Hello Dennis. I will check with the skipper for the boat. 60 something feet, 35-40 people, Rainmaker endtied in front of the yardhouse in long beach, at shoreline village. I will ask to see which of the 3 dates he can accomodate. I will supply appettizers and fluids. Do you want to go out during the day or the evening? I will let you know by the end of the weekend. Thanks Peter Van
Tentatively the date set for the 348/355 event is Saturday September 25th and scheduled as a one day event. More to come soon.
Ill be hitting the piss here with Rob Lay on that date. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=139747351&postcount=1
Lol, cheers mate. We will be thinking of you guys while we are out in the hot-remote desert. Yeah, what a silly ****.
I just received a few pics of the 'Electra', a beautiful classic narrow beam cruiser in Newport. I have contacted a total of five different venues on Newport Harbor. The Electra venue has enclosed parking that can be guarded FYI. I'll keep you posted as to other yachts as information comes in. I am researching option #2 a single day starting with a drive down the coast to Del Mar, La Jolla for lunch on the beach then back up the coast to Spectrum theaters for a film screening and then over to Newport for our dinner / presentation cruise. I have also requested hotels near the harbor with discounted rates for any of you that may wish to stay overnight after the dinner / cocktail cruise. Wer'e looking to fill about 25-35 spots so this can be a small more intimate event. Great time to meet all the great 348/355 guys here at FChat. Don't forget your spouses and girl friends. Remember the event is open to any that love the 348/355 Ferrari, you don't have to own one to attend. Ok, well we're just getting started but here's the list of things that will be given away on the dinner cruise. 1. Chris / VTC has generously offered to donate one of his new Ferrari watches ( if available at the time ) valued at $500. See pic earlier in thread. 2. Dennis / Bushwhacker will contribute by offering a few treats to the mix. A. First multiple 348 and 355 caps, I've probably got 30 new caps to donate valued at around $15 bucks apiece. B. Also multiple 348 and 355 'T's in various sizes , designs and colors valued at $18 apiece. C. 2 or 3 18" X 30" matted and framed, signed limited edition illustrated pen & ink automotive prints valued at $150 each. D. Brand new Mint in box 1/43 scale Ferrari models, various mfg's.Probably a dozen or so. Well, that's a start...how about some more contributions gents, stuff, services, etc.
