    Hey all,
I am tryng to remove the water pump since I have the belts off and do an overhaul on it('75 GT4). I have removed all the nuts and bolts going around and it doesn't want to easily slide off. Is it the gasket seal that is fused and preventing it from coming off or should i remove the nut holding the pully wheel?

Please let me know if I am missing something here? The last thing i want to do is stick and flathead screwdriver in there and start to pry the thing off!!!\

    Thank you F-Chat!!!

Spencer, I would bet that some goof ball put RTV on both sides of the WP gasket and it's stuck on there pretty good.....plus, some corrosion adding to the problem.

Don't go digging with anything at the joint. Try using a rubber/platic head mallet to tap sideways (alternating directions) on the WP and loosen her up.

Is it still held to the motor via 4 8mm studs or have the original studs been replaced with bolts? If it is still studed remove the studs and it should come off.

I'm putting mine back together right now after the pump seizing...:)

Make sure the 2 hoses that come off the back of the housing aren't holding it in place.
I had to (gently)wiggle/pull/tap with a rubber mallett to get it moving. Mine wasn't stuck per se, but it wasn't coming off easily either. :)

    Good luck!

It 3 studs with small nuts (think i used a 9mm socket to remove) and there are 3 long bolts that go all the way through to the block. - Thanks Brian!

I will give that a shot before taking the mallet.

There were 3 studs to pull and some light tapping with the mallet broke ot free.

I was speaking of the 4 long 8mm bolts that go through to the block. On early cars those were studs and it was routine for the pumps to get stuck on them.
