So, do they work on radar, laser, point to point?
Lol. Not possible to get caught speeding in Sydney. Just took me an hour and a half to get from airport to dundas. Made a silly mistake and decided to go over ANZAC bridge. Uber, I waved mate as I went past your Hotel. . Next time I'll book you in advance.
I know mate. We flew in over north Sydney and I could see all the red brake lights heading west. That's when I thought Ah, I should call uncle Al. . BTW the next ones on me mate. You paid for breakfast on my last trip. It looked like everyone was working hard when I drove past. It's when I hit wattle street the traffic came to a halt. Took 30 mins from there to get onto ANZAC bridge.
Here are the locations they will place them in NSW. At the moment only one camera is operating in Sydney. http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/downloads/mobile_speed_camera_locations_0710.pdf
what a joke that "justification" is. Two examples jump out at me, The Lakes Way at Forster, a crumbling decrepit road that has a 100kmh limit for much of it and monster potholes everywhere. In December, I narrowly avoided a head on when a camper van understeered across a bend right at me, neither of us were above the limit, it was just the appalling road surface and an incompetent (young backpacker) driver. Pacific Hwy Pymble. 116 crashes 1 fatality. 99% of those crashes would have been peak hour rear-enders at below the limit. Odds on the fatality was a pedestrian crossing the road illegally - happens all the time. Fantastic revenue raising though, it's one of the busiest Rds on the north side.
Wasn't that the same in NT? Drunk pedestrians in towns getting run over were core statistic? *obviously* you need to eliminate unlimited speeds in the wide open outback (end sarcasm). Seriously I thought NT at the time threatened with funding issues if not in line with other states? I guess you need to look "consistent" so draconian measures in populated areas don't look *as* draconian. What an obscene thing these latest vans are.. private contractors stop cars that they are sooooo concerned about a safety incident? nope! the most important thing is sending that invoice in the mail later in the week from the steady stream of traffic.. sigh. Every article I read mentions these things and the anticipated revenue in the same breath.. where's civil disobedience when you need it? I think they have well and truly crossed the line here with naked cynical cash grab.. tarting it up saying "don't speed and don't get fined" is thin veneer of legal respectability only. If they grab some nutso doing 140 past everyone doing 70 then I agree lock them up and throw away the key.. but they use highlighting the worst excesses while shaving off millions from steady safe flow of traffic which is their ultimate aim to prop up decaying state budget.
anything that has Harold Scruby in the issue needs to be scrapped INSTANTLY !! This WANKER is a 15 minutes of fame whore ... this guy is the arch enemy of motorists, been an arsehole his whole life
he's a neighbour of a mate of mine, I've had many conversations with him. I thought JM was unreasonable and poorly judged in his description. He was far too nice.
http://www.walk.com.au/ they make the road laws in NSW. A one man lobby group (don't believe the names and apparent substance on the website) run by a self-appointed, obsessive and cunning man. NSW Labor road ministers are sh*t scared of him, I'm not overstating that.
It really is time we Australians (and I've been here so long I'm including myself) stand up for common sense. Soon they will mandate that all cars have to automaticly controlled ones, driven by a computer (and if you think this is not coming then have a look at the cr@p that Volvo and Saab are doing) and there goes my main hobby and interest in getting up in the morning. Every week I wonder if I should quit restoring my Alfa as a road car and just make it in a race car because soon there will be absolutely no fun or interest on driving on public roads beause of the completely insane and misguided direction these idiots have. Facts are the safest thing in ANY car is the driver ... so that is where the focus should be, ie. train the fnckers, don't just fine them. There is safe and sensible speeding as road speeds are only a guide but we currently have too many that have not learnt how to judge a road ... Sigh Pete
We are living in a golden age, today. Within 10 years all cars (old and new) will have a GPS transponder by law and we will be charged per km driven and any time we exceed the speed limit, anywhere. This is a simple extension of the existing e-tag toll idea, look how quickly we've all accepted that. It's being trialed in the UK and several other countries right now. The quiet country road fang will soon be a memory. My advice: invest in old racing and rally cars!
Yep, its only going to get worse. Glad I bought my Ferrari now and I didnt decide to wait till I was 50 yrs old. Wouldnt be as much fun by then.
Well e-tag is good idea since it saves having to stop to pay for tolls and enormous queues and delays.. the tracking/reporting on the other hand you'd hope Aussies will flip the bird to any pollie attempting THAT sort of control here. I know the numb nuts in the RTA have muttered such wacky ideas for some time now.. the pollies will sniff the wind and decide what's best for their own immediate future.. consideration of the motorist and actual road safety won't get a look in.. as usual. And yeah.. invest in race and rally regardless
well, when my GPS is parked under my garage it doesn't work, so, if I have a switch that powers off or block the GPS signal then it is a moot point if they have these installed or not. Like the tachographs on trucks , there is always a way around anything
nope, the designers have already thought of this. They're a sealed unit like the e-tag transponders, with a 5 year lithium battery. You might ocasionally be off the grid, but not for long. If you pass by a sensor without a responding unit, you'll get a fine in the mail.
It'd be a sad sad day if this ever came even remotely *close* to being a daily reality for mass private transport. I guess to avoid political backlash it could creep in stealth by degrees.. with plausible reasonable sounding reasons such as "for the environment", "to reduce congestion" and the ever favourite last desperado one if all else fails.. "think of the children!" Death by a thousand small cuts?
whatever a man builds another man can **** him up with something else radar ..... radar detector or jammer 4x4 ...... women
