    Anyone read the sidebar in this month's "Excellence" magazine about the wooden parts in older Porsche engines?

    Hard for me to believe; is this common knowledge they used wooden internals in their engines?

    Well, they made their M96 engine from discarded soup tins, so wood wouldn't be that much of a stretch.

    I know that there are some wooden parts inside the cars.

    The side panels of the 928's center console for example.

    were the pieces treated in a way to make them heat resistant? Or would just soaking in oil achieve that?

    at any rate, that's pretty interesting. I'll have to check out that article (iPhone isn't cooperating with reading the posted images)

    very interesting thread. I've heard of Desert Ironwood being used for ball bearings but never any other type of wood for mechanical purposes.
