I have a 2005 360 Spider Euro spec with a standard exhaust. I am interested in any experience that members may have when the Cats are removed or exhaust valve is locked open, I am just looking to raise the exhaust note slightly. I understand that a sports exhaust sounds great but I also do not want t make the sound excessive. and especially annoying with the top down Any positive comments will be apreciated Thanks Kipper
Kipper, Try on disconnecting your stock exhaust valves. If you like keep your stock exhaust if you want more loud start searching for an aftermarket one.
Pull off the vacuum hoses to the exhaust valves and plug them with a self tapping screw. (you need to remove the black access panels in the engine bay) That way the valves will stay open and the car will be slightly louder at low rpm. I fitted a Level 2 Capristo to my spider, I love it but you would not want any louder. Ears whistle after a long run.
Easier still, pull off the electrical connector blocks from the vacuum valves. 60 second mod and reversible as quickly. You could also fit a switch in the cabin so you can cut the valves in and out at will.
Thanks very much for your suggestions including the previous members post regarding the blocking of the vacuum hoses, Are the vac valves accessable from the panels as suggested in the previous post? Thanks Kipper
Certainly it's possible and perfectly easy to disconnect the electrical block connectors from within the engine bay by doing nothing more than opening the lid. I understand that to remove the vacuum pipes from the valves requires the removal of the inner-rear mudguard but that's not a big job by any means. If removing the electrical blocks bear in mind that there's a wee wire clip that holds them in position that has to be teased out with a small screwdriver first. Once the wire clip is removed they can be pulled off and pushed back on in seconds.
