    Hi,

currently doing the documentation for the ignition setups in the '73 US Dinos and later, and am looking for an Anti Hop device to include the circuit in the documentation. Anyone who removed the ignition retard wiring/air pump setup and would lend or sell me the Anti Hop device? The air pump clutch control (black box with four terminals, below the Anti Hop device) would also be of interest.

It would also be great if you could mail me some photos of your original US AEC103 ignition setup in the luggage compartment to [email protected]

    Cheers,
    Adrian

    Adrian,
Interesting that you should ask. I have also been trying to trace the circuitry for the ignition retard switch and the air pump clutch module. I managed to figure everything out, except for the inside of the Anti Hop device. I did not want to pry it open for fear of damaging the case, and I was thinking about putting in a similar request on this forum, so that I could disect it. Now, if you can get one and take it apart, perhaps I don´t have to! I could let you borrow my module if you are unable to find another one. If you think it can be opened and re-sealed without problems, I could even open it up and document it for you. But I suppose someone will have one lying in a parts bin somewhere. Most of them have been removed, or at least disconnected by now.
I am sending you a couple of photos of the modules in my car to your email address.

By the way, the wiring diagram on your website is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for making it available! The only thing one could wish for would be a similar diagram for the US version. If there is anything I can do to help you getting such a diagram produced, please let me know.

    Lars

    Note:
For the benefit of those who are not familiar with these devices, the Anti Hop device (cute sounding name, probably a translation from Italian) is a module between the micro switch on the throttle linkage and the second set of (retarded) breaker points in the distributor. The micro switch retards the iginition timing when the throttle is in idle position only. The purpose of the module is to prevent the ignition from being retarded when the driver briefly lifts the gas pedal, such as during an upshift, hence the name Anti-hop device. It may be as simple as a delay relay circuit inside (a relay with a capacitor and resistor), but we do not know (yet), because it is shown only as a black box in the factory wiring diagram.

    Hi Lars,

thanks for the photos and your reply! I hope someone here is willing to lend or sell his anti hop device and/or air pump relay, there must be some US Dinos in this forum somewhere :)

The US wiring diagrams for the AEC 103 are next on the list as soon as i have finished to document the different igniton wiring variants for the european E series (three by now).
Your description of the anti hop device is absolutely on the point, BTW.

    Best,
    Adrian

Great input, thanks, have sent a request to Dennis.

The anti hop device seems to be fully potted in epoxy, so if anyone has a defective unit where i could do the disassembly and circuit tracing, i could spare the functional unit from Dennis and use that one for measurements only.

    Best,
    Adrian

installed after market dino plex in 103 case and do not know what to do with the black lead. Also installed the petronus? igniter. Connected the tach wire to the negative side of the coil, it measured 8 volts so was not worried too much about about excess voltage since ballast resistor steps down voltage to ign coil. The tach works fine. I believe the black lead from dino plex is to trigger tach but I am not sure. What do I do I with the black lead. It measures 8 volts also.

Last but not least, used a snap- on timing light to set ign timing then started to check the advance of the distributor. I think, since advance was excessive when I dialed in 36 degrees, thet there must be a formula to dial in the proper advance. Intuition tells me in a 4 cyl engine you would dial in one half of the advance that you would on a v-8. No instructions w/light and no one uses them any more so most forgot includig me.

    talk to you soon

Have to reanimate this thread. Dennis McCann didnt answer on my two requests, maybe he has none in stock. A good friend was able to supply an Air pump controller module but he had no Anti hop device anywhere.

So if anyone still has one (even broken or damaged) which he would sell me, i would be most grateful.

    Cheers,
    Adrian

Is this the microswitch that is mounted using two of the valve cover attach points? I might have an extra

I would call Dennis & Norma and give him the part number from his website:

    350331 HOP DEVICE RELAY SSM1B, DINO 246 US VERSION (MARELLI # SSM1B)(USED).

Phone calls work better than emails.
