I saw them filming Transformers 3 today. I also see a Ferrari 458 will be one of the robots. I don't mean to advertise this movie with a mindless and shallow script, but it is being filmed in Chicago after all. If you have a chance you should go watch them filming downtown. I mean like um...its like very cool, totally.

Better check in your kids toy box for the next big HoLLYwOod franchise film!!

No problem with that. Lots of people on Ferrarichat love "Le Mans" and "Grand Prix". ;)

I went to LaSalle today. We criss crossed the intersections several times. The best part is the total devastation in front of the Board of Trade. Annoyingly the film crew doesn't want you to take pictures (why?) and so of course I didn't take any... ;)

Here a picture from the set staging area on Franklin and Randolph from yesterday. This is in the public domain so I was ok to take a picture. All these concrete blocks are styrofoam and some are on tiny wheels, so they can just roll them into place. Parts of Randolph are blocked to get them to LaSalle. All the stuff is currently out on La Salle.

While it all looks like random rubble, every piece has a little sticker with a number and so I'm guessing there is an overall layout plan for where each piece has to go on the set.

BTW: As we crossed Randolph and La Salle today, the set was "hot" and you could see the hydraulic ramps they use to flip the cars. Pretty cool stuff. They also did a live weapons test and the overhead helicopter took footage from there.

WTF? Despite being surrounded by tall buildings. With windows. From which people could freely take photos to their hearts' desires!

Indeed. Besides: what are you going to do with the pics anyway? The cgi bots are missing anyway

Gee, I wish we'd have a rendering of what the 458 Robot looks like.

Ok, here two pics from yesterday:

Look at the blue pile. To me that looks like a car based transformer which hasn't fully changed shape into a killer robot. I'm guessing they're gonna overimpose the CGI bot figure over this using the blue matte process.

Also on the left side is the Italia under the cover.

    Sure enough they did:

This was the set where one had the best/easiest access to: They seem to have given up on their "no photos" rule and now ask everybody to keep at least moving while taking pictures. Everybody is taking pics btw.

Nice set with the props, the wind machine, lights on the cherry picker and smoke machines on Wacker Dr. Everything of course except for the robots...

This weekend they're shooting the same scenes again at the corner of Wacker and Lake. I'm not surprised: They spent last week refurbishing the "broken off" tower from the Jeweler's building on their staging area. Also note that all these big set pieces are built on trailer to get them quickly into position on the set.

No photoshop here, this is the real deal.

Interesting number plate. Anybody know what that stands for?

They were also in Milwaukee earlier this month filming at the Calatrava Bris Soleil at the Milwaukee Art Museum. (See Milwaukee Masterpiece thread if you want to see a photo of it, as the Masterpiece is held right in the shadow of it)

Something about the building being the world headquarters for some group, and a scene with an armored car leaving.

All the principal actors were on site, so it must play some importance in the storyline (whatever there is of it).

The building itself would make a great Transformer.

Interesting. Maybe it was the bad guys' headquarter?

Here a shot of the old post office building in Chicago (featured prominently in the bank heist scene in "Dark Knight"): The "good" Transformer cars were all arriving here and based on the look of the fake antennas out front this might be the good guys' HQ?

They were all there: Transformer firetruck, 458, Supervette, Camaro and a black truck plus a lot of special forces guys.
