I heard this guy is a pretty hot driver for the ferraris--Even though he drives a lotus and sports a Gold Chain? I am looking for a good instructor to give me tips on driving at the next Willow event--as I have just purchased a 308--Is he good?? and how can i reach him?

I don't know exactly who David Christain is, but Danny McKeever runs (owns) the school up there. And he is a very good instructor.

What is your location? If we're talking about the same David he is a very good driver. I know from personal experience. The David I'm talking about has a green 355 spider. I can fill you in on more details if you want.

    Hi,

Pretty funny to see my name on this! I'm David Christian and I started doing track days at Riverside with the Ferrari Owner's Club in the Seventies. Ended up doing some IMSA in the Eighties and Firestone Firehawk, too. Vintage raced my 275 GTB/4 in the first Palm Springs Vintage Grand Prix and then ran vintage Stingrays for awhile.

I have instructed lots of Ferrari guys over years and love to do it. They are such wonderful cars that it is a shame most drivers never use them as they are really intended. I just did quite a bit of work with a great guy who started with a new California Spyder and then got a 458. The 458 is remarkable and surprisingly easy to drive fast.

I do run a Lotus Elise now (but dumped the gold chain in the eighties). I still instruct with Jim Saxton at his West Coast Racing events. These grew out of the old Ferrari/Pantera events at Riverside. His next one is March 3-4 at Big Willow.

I also do private instructing, as well. I'm in Palm Springs, so Chuckwalla Valley Raceway is an easy spot now. It's also a super safe and fun track. Here is a view from the Lotus. This is a very old video. I run a bit differently now, as I know the track better. This was taken the first day I drove there.

FYI, I can be reached at [email protected].

Again, really funny to see this thread. I guess that comes from doing this a really LONG time! But I still love it! If I can help, let me know.

I forgot to mention that there are normally 10-12 Ferraris at the West Coast Racing events.

Also, my instruction at those events is included in the registration fee. Cheap track time, great people and free instruction! What's not to like?

David's a good driver and instructor. I just wish I was fast enough to follow him around Chuckwalla!

Hi David! Great to know you are here. I still remember the time you took Phoebe around Riverside in your Mini. She swears that as you came to the big sweeper (turn nine?) you hollered something like, "Oops, we may be coming in too fast". Apparently not! Those were good times.

    Hi Ed,

Yep, I'm still around. And, as frightening as the concept is, I still see Bloomer on occasion.

It has, unfortunately, been way too many years since we last saw each other. Please give Phoebe a hug for me. Those were incredible years when we all used to be together at Riverside in the seventies and eighties.

Hey David, It's good to hear you're doing well. I missed you guys last time in Willow Springs.
When is the next time you'll be out there with Jim , October?
It was always a lot of fun with your group and Bill is a trip.
I've always brought only the Porsches out but perhaps I'll bring the F car out next time so you can beat me in your Lotus :)

    take care
    Sean
