Massa should've just ignored the orders, gone ahead and won.
The ultimate team order sport finished it's race today up the Champs-Elysee. Racecar drivers are paid to outperform the rest. Even Sir Stirling is still miffed that he doesn't know for sure that the great Fangio didn't 'gift' him the British GP. Stirling wanted to win fair and square. Now the number one can use the number two car to blast away through the field, following around in the tow until the last lap then go by for the max points? The number two car could weave/block others? It's called manipulation, that's not a sport in my book. I applaude Smedley for the way he did it.
Unfortunately, there has always been a 'black' joke inside racing. The team tells drivers, "We can't guarantee you will win, but if you piss us off we CAN guarantee you dont!"
Diehard fans ? On this message board ???? Sorry man, mostly posers on here, whiners. The Tifosi don't care who wins when the Scuderia pulls a 1-2 finish. If Massa wanted to win, he should have pulled away from Zo, he was slower, he's second then, period.
Dont know if you watched right to the end but Massa pulled the fastest sector times on the first 2 sectors of the last lap but it didnt get posted because Alonso went slightly faster on the 3rd sector. Massa just showed that he did not have a problem at all. The move by Ferrari was not justified one bit and they again put another blemish on the mark. I believe that this kind of chit is not going to stop and that Ferrari will soon start big time infighting. We are in for a long haul of Italian bullchit. No way was Vettel ever going to take Massa. Massa backed off after the pass because his heart was busted. He then turned it back on.
one heck of an opinion. one of the funniest posts i've read in some time. thanks for the comedy. Last race, you were b1tchin and moanin about the Ferraris being slow.
Man, John, you're slipping. First you write Massa off as having lost his confidence, sounding like Ted who had it all figured out, now this. Without yesterday's fiasco Massa would be about 24p from FA, less than a win. Hardly a closed and shut case.
Yeah - wouldn't it have been great if Felipe came back on the radio to Smedley and said: "Alonso can have 1st position when he prys it from my cold, dead hands? Do YOU understand?" >8^) ER
Team orders are a bunch of BS. If someone is faster make them pass, and make a clean pass as teammates by giving eachother room. Id be furious if I was Massa. Pure BS
Massa is helping Ferrari towards the WCC. He is also driving, personally, for the WDC. Today, Ferrari hampered his chance of winning the WDC. A 1-2 finish is a 1-2 finish, regardless of which driver is the 1 and which is the 2. They went out of their way to help Alonso win his championship at Massa's expense. But regardless of all of that - the fact remains that it is against the rules. So Ferrari broke the rules to help Alonso with his WDC at Massa's expense. Massa could not have said out loud that he hated the decision... well, he could have, but that would be throwing the team under the bus. He didn't say anything because Ferrari are lying about it, and to admit he was unhappy would be to acknowledge Ferrari were lying. A better analogy to baseball or other team sports would be like if Kobe was heading for some record and the team took him out and put someone else in just so that the other guy could win some award for playing in every game. Would it be screwing Kobe over? Absolutely. Would he be pissed? Yep. Would it be against the rules? Nope. But, it is against the rules in F1. So it's a different situation.
Or, in a nutshell... "some people think real Tifosi are those who want to win at any cost, even if it means breaking the rules". Hope none of those same folks had anything to say about McLaren-gate, or Toyota-gate, or the Renault singapore crash? Either it's "win at all costs, rules be damned!" or it's "we want to win, but it's gotta be fair".
So Ferrari circumvents the testing rules with their 'filming day'; has two consecutive races where they cry like babies over fia penalties, and now this bs. I'm finding it difficult to root for them more & more. Alonso is the second coming of that weasel Alain Prost. Kevin
The other thing that needs to be said is that both RedBull drivers in this race proved they are not ready for a WDC. RedBull is not going to win this year, poor races by both drivers. Yes their car was not fast but that is when you need to dig deep and make the most of it and 4th and 6th is not good enough. Also can somebody teach Vettel how to start ... been watching MS too much over the years. Pete
Massa SHOULD be able to throw the team under the bus. That's why I hate this "no team orders" rule. He should have been able to say he hated the idea and ask the team to defend it. But, he can't. Instead, he has to sit there and lie. Teams do things against players all the time. In baseball, they put in relief pitchers even if the guy is still has a chance for a win. They put in substitute hitters because they think another guy can do a better job. They put in different players in the last innings because they think he can play better defense. Is it insulting to the guy they took out? I would think so. But, it's what you do to support the team (and the guys paying your paycheck). TO used to complain that he wasn't being thrown to. Well, guess what. They DIDN'T WANT to because they thought throwing so someone else was a better idea. Tough. My point is this "no team orders" rule is just manipulating what is going to be manipulated anyway. If there this rule were not in the books today, the controversy would be half as much. Massa may not like it, but he could say so. Or, he could go with it (because let's face it -- it does make the most sense) and be a hero. The choice would have been his, not the handcuffs of the FIA.
Love how all the anti-post race penalty people are calling for a penalty. HILARIOUS! CONGRATS TO ALONSO AND MASSA today for both driving a great race...FORZA 1-2
How long have you been watching F1?, can't be that long if you honestly think that. One of MS's weaknesses is starts and he thus resorts to weaving all over the track to try and keep others behind him while is car chugs off the line because of his mistake. Used to stress the living **** out of me when I was a fan. Pete
I live in 2010, not the early 2000s. RIGHT NOW, MS is the best starter on the grid. If you say otherwise, watch the starts of races this season.
You are saying that most individuals here, on this F1 forum, are posers? So what are you? I care who wins, when they deserve to win. I may not agree with many of the regulars on this forum, but most would never say what you just said. Alonso was given this victory. Again, if the car in front of him was not his teammate, I really doubt Alonso would have, could have, passed that car. He was just a LITTLE bit faster, but that was after Massa had his wind knocked out of him by his own engineer. I have a feeling, an itch if you will, it is you that is the poser.
I usually call my Italian hard core Ferrari friends with the results, and all of them, all of them, think Ferrari should be penalized. They were appalled with Ferrari's actions. Winning with no regard to rules is not winning. It is cheating, typical Alonso. And now it appears, typica Ferrari.
