I have been steadily de-stickifying my interior, but now notice the black rear window trim is sticky.
What is the solution? Clean it with something like alcohol or a new piece of rubber?

I used goof off 2 (available at Lowe's) for my car, but I did not use it on the window trim. It is in an orange spray bottle. I would try it out on a small section and see if it looks good after the stuff dries. Don't use the regular Goof Off, it is petroleum based. Good Off 2 is water based according to the manufacturer, who Paulie_B contacted.

Yep, I have done about 10 sets of the rear window trim. It comes off in three sections. It is also a bit different getting the sticky stuff off then the interior parts.

What does it do? Does de-stickify? (love that word) the coating and leave it looking/feeling like new -or- does it strip the sticky coating off down to something underneath (metal or normal plastic perhaps)???

I used some iso. alchohol on a MF towel and it cleaned up nicely. It was a pain but the it worked.

On average, my prices for refinishing are about a 1/3 of what new parts cost, not too bad on the wallet..:D

My experience was that it removed the coating completely revealing whatever was underneath (the plastic on the A/C control panel for example). I did not miss the coating, so I just left the plastic as the finished surface and did not get any stickiness after that.

Ahhhh, OK. That makes sense. I wasn't aware that the stickiness came from a coating, I'd assumed it was just inferior plastic all the way through..... This is encouraging.

What does the base plastic look like? I'm hoping it's not plaid or orange ;)

I have seen gray, black, brownish, white and yellow under the coating... Very hard to get all the stickiness off and keep a good looking underlayer of plastic... It is possible on the switches more than any other part, but switches are much harder to strip correctly...

Simple to remove the three pieces. Mine (1990 TS) was gray plastic after removing the "goo". Light sanding with wet/dry 400 grit, once coat of primer and three coats of gloss black made them look new. Yeah I know they should be semi-gloss or flat black, but I had the gloss black in hand. The result looks great.
Suggestions: (1) don't tighten any of the nuts during installation until all 3 pieces are in place and the overlaps at each end are equal in terms of spacing. (2) snug the nuts down, not too tight. If you break one off, it can't really be fixed.

The brutal heat here in South Florida can do number on the plastic interior. I don't have the
guts or experience to deal with it myself like some of you all. The go-to guy that I found
is Rick Bishop in the Fort Lauderdale area. He did a outstanding job on my sticky 550 interior
and also refinished the black trim at the bottom of my rear window at a very reasonable
    price.

Just went through this as well...

For anyone that just doesn't wanna mess with it (pun intended), Stickynomore is the best resource bar none. Sadly, I didn't come to this conclusion until AFTER I had sent off all of my interior pieces. Soooooo, being the impatient mofo I can be, I used MEK and elbow grease to strip these three pieces down. MEK can be pretty aggressive, so extreme care was taken. My parts were white/light-gray once the sticky was removed. Once all the cleaning and preliminary stuffs was done, I painted them to match the body of the car (nero, in my case). Looks great, but going from blackish to black is easy. I'm curious how this would appear on a car with another color... (assuming the flat black deck lid has been painted to match as well). I'm posting updated photos of this in another thread tomorrow...
