2010 Porsche Turbo or GT3 RS

Gents-

Looking for a new weekend car, something fun to drive and fast. Love them both, which would you choose and why.

2010 Porsche turbo or 2010 GT3 RS?

Weekends = 1 more vote for 911 GT3 RS.

I'd also choose the new .2 GT3 RS.

Really only because it's my 2nd fav Pcar of all time.

I would take a white 2010 Turbo S with red wheels. but, only with a manual tranny. No PDK.

 

Turbo........broader appeal at resale time.......a subtler looking car.........more fun to drive (totally subjective of course).

 

No interest in tracking it so... Turbo S Cabriolet. No doubt about it.

 

What are you intentions with the car? Just a weekend warrior? Occasional track day? Grocery run here and there?

For a weekend car, go for the GT3RS, but to be honest, take it out to the track it open it up sometimes, I hear they aren't very comfortable DDs.

If you are looking for a DD, the Turbo should be good enough.

 

I would love to get into signing up for occasional track days. Never done it before, I assume I should become a member of the Porsche Club or Ferrari Club and they organize track days?

I would probably track the car twice a year. I have never driven the turbo or the GT3 RS. Probably best to take them both for a test drive.

I feel like the turbo is a more well rounded car for weekend cruising and going to the mall ect. The thing I don't like about them is that they are somewhat common where I live. I have not seen a GT3 RS on the road yet and that kind of intrigues me....

 

If your looking to do track days only a few times a year, get the turbo.

Probably one of the best all around DD's out there on the market today.

If your looking for a cruiser and a "mall" car, GT3 RS just won't work too well.

And, if the Turbo is common where you are, maybe a Turbo S?

I wouldn't get the new one though.

Whats the process I need to go through to track my car. Do I need to get training? A license? I got a 800 hp supra and I would love to open it up on a track, also have an M3 which would be fun. I dont even know where to start. Should I join a club? Guide me in the right direction pls.

 

Go to NASA and get involved with their HPDE (High Performance Drivers Ed). Its a lot more organized than some of the "track days" you may be enticed by, and at a HPDE you can earn enough experience to actually get a racing license.

As for the OP... I have a GT3, and its for real hard core peeps. The Turbo is much more palatable (all but resale), but with that said I have no interest in the turbo. Its GT3 all the way.

 

I had a 997 GT3 and it was a great car. Bulletproof as are most Porsches. I did not track it but it worked fine as a weekend fun car for me. I like the firm ride and communication the GT3 delivers. If I had to choose now, I might just spring for a '11 Turbo with the 500hp 3.8 and all of the other improvements they've made to it. It would have to be a 6spd manual. You can also order the aerokit for the car and give it a more sporty look like the GT3. The new Turbo is supercar fast while still fairly agile on the track. Just my .02. The RS is a still an awesome car and you can't go wrong with either one.

 

FYI - You can get a 6spd in both the new turbo and turbo S - my dealer has one of each.

I'd have to say the GT3 RS solely because the original is one of my all time favorite cars:

The new turbo S is abit of "crazier" car then previous turbos... It's seriously fast, 0-60 with launch control is 2.9secs!

But for tracking, the RS is it....

 

The "S" is only available in a PDK. You can option a Turbo pretty close to a "S" but you won't get the extra HP from a bit more boost.

 

I just went through this exercise.

Although I desperately wanted an RS, I chose the TTS cab as it's a daily driver and I thought the raw aspect of the RS would wear.

 

Just made another pass by my dealer today. I was wrong, they have 2010 tt 6spd and pdk, but the turbo S's are all only in PDK - sorry for the bad info.

 

Even if it was for my grandmother to daily commute, GT3 and it doesn't need be the RS.

 

If you are using the car to commute to and from office, the Turbo S is a better choice. The Turbo is a car you can live with, and enjoy, on a daily basis.

The RS is great fun to hammer on a country road; and it feels like a race car because it is a purpose built, street legal, race car.
