If this car were a stick it would be spec'ed perfectly for me (if I were to upgrade from my coupe to a spider) as I actually like the standard rims better than the modulars, and like all the other options on the car except the F1...not that I'm looking to upgrade, I'm just saying :)

Anyway, my question is what is the factory racing exhaust system? I somehow missed learning about this during my months of 360 research, and now months of 360 ownership. What are the differences and what does it sound like? Is it similar in sound to a tubi, or not quite as loud/similar sounding? I love the sounds of my tubi, but I have a coupe- would sound louder to the occupants with a convertible...maybe too loud thus the factory option?

Is this a rare option? Was it only offered on the later 360s? Anyone have one to comment on sound?

The Factory Racing Exhaust is a standard fitment on the Challenge Stradale. If you've seen a Stradale exhaust then you've seen the Factory racing exhaust.

Yes, its a very rare option on regular 360's.

That car also has the very, very rare optional Carbon air boxes too. You can tell these are the original 360 ones (prior to the CS) because they connect with snap clips whereas on the CS they connect with bolts (this fitment difference is due to the CS using the later 430/599 air flow meters). This prooves they are a factory fitted option.

Again seen as standard on the CS but extremely rare on the 360.

could it also be standard fitment on the 360 Challenge cars?

No, challenge cars use non road legal systems.

This is a system designed to bypass (excuse the pun) EU Noise Regulations by using valves that don't open during the test allowing it to pass excessive db noise test.

I've got that option on my coupe (and the color stitching)- beleive it or not I actually had to use the spare when I came out to the garage one day and the front tire was completly shot due to rot cracks- the front tires were original and 10 years old! I posted a picture of the spare on my car somewhere on f-chat- very funny looking.

This car looks really nice with all those options!

Can anyone comment on how this exhaust system sounds? Similar to a tubi, but maybe not as loud at lower RPM part-throttle due to need to pass noise regulations?

As I already stated its exactly the same exhaust (same part no's) as used by the factory on the Challenge Stradale model later on, therefore this 360 will sound very very close to the CS, i.e. epic.

The main differences in sound between pre-CS cars and 360's with the optional racing exhaust are accounted for by the extra variable valve overlap programmed into the CS software which gives it that bit more power and the slightly acoustically tuned pre-airbox (plastic airbox resonator). This makes the CS sound even better but we are splitting hair's here...

Far more hardcore sound from the Racing exhaust than the bassy flabby sound from a tubi which sound more trombone like.

Great response (I've never heard a CS exhaust by the way, so thanks for going into detail).

Do you think it would be a bit much in a spider or not? For me I don't think so since I love the sounds even if convertible and they are a little loud - for others I guess it might be too loud? This exhaust option must be even more rare on a spider. And the rare intakes...whoever ordered this car really knew their stuff (and/or had a lot of extra coin ;) )

If I was in the market for a 360 Spider and this one was close I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if everything else checked out. The spec is great. Expecially the exhaust and carbon packages. It actually makes this car a very rare and sort after example, especially for the Ferrari connoisseur / enthusiast.

The CS exhaust system is very much in demand used so if even if you didn't like it you could very easily sell it on for a lot of money to other 360's owners (more than buying an aftermarket system infact). This system is one of the best available for the 360 and its backed up by the fact it came from the factory so personally I wouldn't mess with the spec on this car, its almost perfect. Only options I would have ticked are carbon seats with race harnesses.

I bought a 2004 Spider with that exhaust this Spring, and I really like the sound. I can easily have a conversation with my passenger even on the highway (top up or down) with that exhaust, unless I am really standing on it. And, when the valves open at around 7k and the sound deepens, it is just glorious. I like it much better than the tubi sound, and would recommend it.

(It also is cool having a car that is different from most other 360s.)
