    Hi Socal Peeps,

NE1 know the code for this as pertaining to classic cars? I got a ticket for my Dino not having front plates. Aren't classic cars exempt? How do I fight this?

    Thanks for any info,

    Manny

Trying to find a front plate bracket might make the fight easier. :)

The code is 5200 which you are in violation of if you don't have a plate. This has always been the law, at least as far back as the '70s, which is when I first got a ticket for such.

I had the same problem so I made one for my 308. Cities are looking for more revenue to line their coffers (!%^$#%$#&#!)
Go to http://chairpilotproducts.com and check out the removable front plate brackets there.
The brackets require no tools or drilling to mount.

Front plate tucked into the dash on both my vehicles. No front plate tickets.

I average two stops a year, one for speeding and the other is "I think you did something wrong but can't prove it."

I know they see the plate there because they write it down while standing on the passenger side to take back to the computer. :)

Push a little bit of foam through the top holes so it creates a cushion against the windscreen to prevent rattles.

You give them no wiggle room during a stop if you don't have anything at all showing.

    Gents,
I just posted this in reponse to Manny's similar request in the 206/246 section.

"There's a stainless copy of the factory bracket that Fred alluded to...about $60 from Superformance. It can be modified to accept a Cali plate, or the plate can be 'adjusted' to fit.
    http://www.superformance.co.uk/a-246/fittings.htm

I'm in the process of replicating a Euro holder, but currently have the plate attached beneath the center of the grille, tilted back at the bottom: Perfectly visible from five feet away...or greater. And it's not too objectionable. A rep from the local sheriff's department complimented me on having the front plate; he noticed!
For the last several years in our area of So Cal, law enforcement officers have been known to frequent some of our car shows and issue tickets to street-driven display vehicles sans front plate. Talk about a captive audience! With the opportunity to fill the coffers with revenue generated by red light cameras (big-time!) and fix-it tickets (not so big-time, but considerable source due to shear numbers), our state seems to have moved the plate issue up the priority list. 'bottom line is...front plates are required in California.
Hey, many of our friends in other countries actually have 'em on their cars. I understand from some that penalties are severe for not having them. Look at the cars in England...front numbers are displayed on the actual body/nose of the car!
Check out the "plate clip" that Bob Rohaly (Chairpilot) is marketing for the 3x8s. Perhaps one could be modified to work on our cars?
    http://www.chairpilotproducts.com/

I've attached pictures of what appears to be an original holder (1st & 2nd pic are similar, though one version appears to have bent ears and the other has 'em spot welded), the Superformance S/S offering, Bob's bracket from the site, above, and my car, with the 'psuedo' bracket.
At any rate, Manny, if you don't want to have the hassle or expense of potentially chronic write-ups, you might want to bite the bullet and figure a way to mount the front plate."

    Good luck to all,
    Coop

I believe I can modify my Plate Clip design to fit almost any Ferrari with a blade (egg crate) type grill. From the photos and few in person 2x6 cars I've seen in the past, this should be no problem.

I have one of Bob's removable brackets and can vouch for the quality and fit. Top notch and highly recommended.

I got a ticket in W. Hlywd 2 weeks ago, & that's not an option. You must correct the violation to clear the ticket, the cost of the ticket just depends on how fast you get the correction signed off & check sent in. Only cost me $10 (if done within 14 days) :)

Thanks for looking into that, Bob.
As you know, there is a lot smaller and recessed grille opening, with limited access for attachment, to deal with on a 2x6 vice a 3x8. The cooling system is somewhat challenged and can get downright ugly...especially in A/C-equipped cars or in hotter climes... when airflow is restricted into the rad. You'll need to factor that into your design. I hope you can work it out!
    Keep us posted.

    Coop (and all),

I recommend that it be mounted on the lowest blade of the grill, or even off to the side, so it minimizes any significant air cooling blockage.
