At the Avis Rental Car counter they say they will add 6000 euros to your bill if the cameras spot your rental car on the Nurburgring or Hockenheim. Anyone get caught for this?

Add some stickers or something silly and go. How would they know? ;)

Would 6000 euros be a 'cheaper' rate than renting a car to go on the track? :D

RSR rent cars for the track, normal rental firms have spotters and covering the tag is really not an option they check each car and record who's going on the track. The general public days get really really busy - but car watching in the parking lots is fun for sure.

The more interesting issue is if you have a bad day while on the track - the costs mount up really really quickly, I understand repair to the track, cost of getting brought off and if the track is closed you pay for loss of revenue .... - and when I was there last month there we plain clothes police on the track making sure overtaking was done on the left per road rules.

One biker was done for travelling too close to a rental carrera - scratch marks on the body of the 911 - jeez he was bloody lucky.

But it's got to be one place every gearhead needs to go to.....
