Put them side by side, throw all your knowledge of them aside and take a long look. You can't help but notice how modern the 458 is. In the looks department, 458 wins it hands down! It all boils down to the lines are curvature of the body. Performance wise, there is no comparison, though I agree with Jeremy on one issue, it could get a little frustrating when signalling. ;)

Drive it like you stole it!

Yeah the main thing is the gearbox should suit the character of the car. A PDK in the GT3 would numb the drivig experience as it was designed to be a driver-oriented car from the start. Yes it does shave off a few secs from your lap times but I won't trade that for the enjoyment of rowing my own boat.

That being said, I would definitely opt for a auto/dual-clutch box on a daily GT cruiser

He is the only presenter which made the 458 look interesting! Well, along with all the funky visual effects of the video. :)

from 20 to 90 will normally take 3-5 weeks.
The problem is if you are at 20 today chances it will take longer as the factory closes in August. So add another 3-4 weeks to the total.
From 90 to 95 is about another 3-4 weeks.
So if you are at 20 now, car will probably be in the showroom end October? early November?

I just bought a copy of Excellence with the 918 on the cover. There's this American who races in the GT3 Cup. For the Cup car, they have the seqeuntial gearbox with straight cut gears & non-gas lift off for upshifts.

He modified a PDK with 3.8L & lightened the flywheel, full roll cage etc. running tests now which apparently is very fast. Initial stages had an overheated gearbox but after re-programming, it did fine. Was also tested by ex factory testdriver who had rave reviews about it. This is a privateer & I'm sure factory has been toying it since PDK came from their early days in racing.

The PDK maybe a Big step forward for Porker GT3s. Manual gearbox is virtually non-existant for Ferarri & Lambo orders now.

Imagine trying to beat the Ring record with a manual GTR :D

But the fact remains that a paddle shifter shifts faster than a manual.
so its pretty much "Performance VS Thrill".

I think only 5 or 10% of Ferrari and Lambo customers spec their car with manual so there's not enough demand to justify making them.

I agree that lap records can never be broken with a manual and a human shifiting. A computer will always shift faster as technology continues to improve.

I might be considered backward...but manual shifting still seems so cool especially the hard ones like the old Ferraris and Lambos...so much precision and skill needed from the driver to slot it in (no dirty intention)...i hope they dont go away soon.

Don't wanna rapidly produce babies at the rate of 1 per 60 milliseconds! :p

I do enjoy the thrill of shifting manually once in a while, but it takes alot of determination to convert back to a manual especially if you're exposed to auto transmissions. I have a class 3 licenses, but drove autos after I passed.

Guess I didn't want to walk home with an unevenly sized left arm and cramps on my leg. :(
