Make that 3---the "matte grey" carbon looks great on the car, esp with the matte top finish...but I certainly understand wanting the old style...

The dry carbon fiber is far superior to the "wet" carbon that people are familiar with. That's why they use the dry carbon fiber on the Challenge cars, and I assume they use it on other race cars also. I guess some people still want the "bling factor" of the wet carbon fiber. :)

Agreed, in most things, including show cars...wet is better, but then a GTO is not "most things" :)

Is it not possible to have a black brilliant finish on dry carbon ? Is it always grey with barely invisible waves ?

My problem is not the kind of carbon used, it's the fact that the exterior CF parts of the GTO look like plastic before you look closely. I want to know if Ferrari can offer a different finish by special order.

Lovely thread. Thank you very much for posting your impressions and photos.

Good to hear you are driving & enjoying the car - & what a fabulous car it is. Enjoy. Wishing you many happy miles of motoring. regards, Pete

Or bring it to Western Australia. About 2,000,000 people but about 8 times as big as New Mexico! 1.5M people in the capital, Perth. Plenty of open spaces.

Thanks Pete. Seems you guys have plenty of space down under to enjoy your F toys ;)

By the way: my dealer installed the exhaust switch (similar as the one I have on my HGTE) on my GTO. I can only recommend it. Easy, low cost accessory but loads of fun in return :D

    M, thanks for this tip!
I actually asked my dealer to put it on but they told me that there was no need on the GTO. To tell you the truth I had the impression that they were not very familiar to it. I didn't have it on the GTB but I'll insist to have it installed!

My pleasure. In a way, they are right. The GTO's sound track doesn't really need it as it is impressive as it is. However, below 3,000 rpm she's very ... normal I would say. This can be fixed putting the car in race mode as the valves open sooner and you get a deeper sound at low rpm. But putting the car in race mode on wet roads in public traffic isn't such a sensible thing to do. This is where having the switch available comes in handy ;)

Hey, magnetinno means nothing. Manettino is the word.Magnetino is just a game for kids, with magnetic letters on a table..:)
You are not italian, nether am I. But at least try writing correctly, in respect for the people that are making the car, as long as you love it.

Thank you very much for the correction Sir. Truly appreciated and please accept my apologies for misspelling the word. What I don't understand (and won't accept) is how you can possibly link a spelling error to the statement that I would not have respect for the people making the car. I have a lot of respect for everybody working at Ferrari, hence my request that they all put their signature under the hood of my car. Your statement makes no sense whatsoever!

By the way: "nether" is not spelled the way you wrote it. Should be "neither". Think twice before posting next time :( or how you want "correct" people.

English is not my native language. So I make mistakes. But as long as you are speaking us about a car it was appropriate to use the right words. I’m not posting in the English lesson forum.

You combine the magneto(from Magnetorheological suspension) with manettino switch..

All those people that put their signature under the hood of your car would correct you if they heard you. Even if they don’t speak very well English language.

English is not my native language either and I obviously make mistakes. I certainly don't have a problem with people correcting me. Makes me smarter at the end of the day :)

You were out of line linking the spelling error to the fact that I disrespect the people who built the car. That is way out of line and that's what I wanted to let you know in my reply.

Hey, if the spelling errors bother you that much I have a solution for you ... stop reading my posts and go read other posts about the GTO. But, if I follow your thinking ... you will be in for a surprise and you will find out that there are quite a number of GTO owners with a lack of respect for people working at Ferrari.

I hope we can get back on topic now ...

That was not what I’ve said. I said that you have to make an effort to spell correct that word at least for the people you respect.
If you have to say something pm.

You do have problems with people that corrects you. And you have problems understanding what people say.

Arhimede...you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

I'm Italian and I truly doubt that anyone who works at the Ferrari factory (with the slightest amount of brain) would be offended if a Belgian customer misspelled some minor Italian nomenclature. On the other hand, I think they would VERY proud in hearing all the praise and joy that the fruit of their labor is bringing to this specific customer.

M, after a couple of weeks of ownership and the possibility to compare your GTO to your HGTE I'd love to hear some first-hand experiences.

How does the HGTE compares to the GTO? Is there, in normal road-use, a big difference between the two and how does this show in daily life?

Also, could you use a GTO as a more regular Ferrari for short trips? Somehow I don't think this is a possibility due to stiffer suspension etc. Am I wrong in this case or can you confirm my hunches?

    Forza Ferrari! :)

Pete- Most Americans do not realize Australia is within 5% of the size of the Continental US. Sounds like a fun place to drive. Except for one small thing, M would have to have some sort of big sign hanging on his car saying " left hand drive car" I seem to remember. Does not bother people in England, but it sure seems to bother officials down under.

M- Manettino? Who cares about spelling? I have to google it every time I use it in a post. I am still not sure if it is Magneride or Magnaride. Thanks for a great thread on your car and for sharing it with those of us who likely never will be able to afford one.

    1) HGTE versus GTO: two totally different cars. HGTE: great GT car. Fast as hell and comfortable. GTO: Mighty fast, adrenaline rush, superb handling (no under steer, something the HGTE struggles with) ... very addictive car.

    2) Difference in every day life: No doubt that the HGTE is the preferred car for long trips. The GTO is back to basics (at least my version with no radio, no sat nav, no leather, ...). Having said this, I was expecting the car to be less practical to drive in every day, city situations. I was wrong. In fact, the gearbox is way better than the HGTE making it very nice to drive around town as well. The HGTE is fun to drive in and out of the city and certainly on long road trips. The GTO is way better on twisty roads and ... of course, the track.

    3) "Also, could you use a GTO as a more regular Ferrari for short trips?" In my opinion you can. Yes, it is stiffer but it is OK. I find it as usable as my ex F430 but it gives me a LOT more driving pleasure.

Bottom line is: When I open my garage in the morning I'm always tempted to go for the GTO as it is such a thrill to drive it. But driving the HGTE always reminds me that:

    a) They are two different cars what makes this very interesting.
    b) It is an excellent GT with a trunk with enough space to take it on 4 to 5 day trips.
    c) Ferrari did a hell of a job with the GTO but that doesn't take away anything of the qualities of the HGTE.

After more than one month of driving both I can say that both serve my needs very well.
